HD Failing on Sony HAP-Z1ES HDD Player, Need help from Owners of Sony Player

The hard drive in my Sony HAPZ1ES HDD player seems to be failing.  After playing for a while, the player starts to skip and go back to the beginning of the song.  Once this happens, every file on the player will do it.  If I shut off for 5 minutes, it will work fine again for a while.  I have concluded that the 1TB Hard drive is failing.

I want to replace the drive with either a 1 or 2 TB SSD.  My question is how do I get the Linux software which runs the player onto the new Hard drive?  I know a few members have done just that.  I am hoping they can advise me.  I won't have a problem copying the hd contents, just worrying about getting the operating software onto the new drive.  When I look into the HD on the player, I am not seeing the software.

The system software is likely not on the HD.

Could it just need a firmware update?

Have you updated the system software?

Have you defaulted the system?

Have you tried an external HD? It must be formatted for the device.

Can you just replace the HD?

Latest firmware, I looked at the hard drive inside the Sony.  There doesn’t seem to be an OS on the hard drive, yet there is 350MB on a volume I can’t look at. I assume that is the system software.  Everything on the player is up to date and this problem has been going on for a few years through 2 firmware updates.  It used to happen once in a while, now it is happening daily.  I have to turn player off and wait a few minutes.  After starting again, it is good for a couple of hours.  Sony service said it is a HD failure.

I already have both a new 1 and 2 TB SSD Drives plus I have a brand new Hitachi 1TB  7200rpm SATA drive  which is unused that I took out of my new Dell.  I just need to know how to get the software on the new HD, then I can get my files back on it easily.  I hope this is clearer for anyone who may have done this already so they can advise.

I am not a computer or software expert and I can't tell you how to do this but I know there is a way to make a mirror copy of your HDD onto a new HDD.

Hope you can find someone who can do it.
