Who turns center off when listening to music

Regarding 3.1 systems. When listening to music; Who deactivates the center channel via the processor?

And with surround systems who goes back to 2.1 when listening to music.  Do any of the processors have presets you can you for this?

I like to switch it up, with my morning coffee its 2.1, no center channels. When listening to music that is most everything else I upmix to 9.2.2 (just engaging my front height speakers and wide speakers are KEY for most music reproduction). When listening to bass dominant music like you hear in a club (house music, pop, hip hop) and classic arena rock I go full immersive 7.2.6. The 9.2.2 (with wides) setup presents music like it is being played in front of you like in a jazz club or concert hall. Full on immersive is more like a night/dance club or stadium when using an upmixer.

Music specifically mixed for atmos I listen in atmos 7.2.6.

It depends on whether the music source has a center channel in it or not.  If there is center channel info, I prefer to play it rather than delete it or split it to the L/R speakers.  If there isn't, the decision is moot.

I fooled a gentleman today who visited my home. I played some music and he thought the center channel speaker was on !

Nuff Said !! 😂

no center, no surround.

indeed, I don't even use a center nor surround for movies or TV anymore.  two-channel works just fine w video... good enough speakers create a phantom center.

Unless your 2-channel setup is absolute shite, leave the center off.  What AVP, amp, and speakers are you using and how much flexibility do you have in placing your front L/R speakers?
