speaker recommendations for Ayre V-5xe?

Hi All,

I recently picked up this amp used and have a Lumin T2 connected direct

I'd like to try a couple of standmount speakers in the 5-10k price range that would be considered an ideal match for the amp to really see what it can do

open to all ideas, was thinking Dynaudio heritage specials, the new Fritz Purifi model, Bowers 805d4

will likely get the Ascend Sierra-2EX v2 to start as it is relatively inexpensive and then go from there

really seeking a specific model if possible that is known to have synerygy with this amp

thanks in advance

Didn’t you say on your other post that you have the Harbeth HL5Plus? Did you sell them?

Forget the Ascend Sierras and just buy these.  You may well never feel the need to upgrade, and JA speakers sound sublime with Ayre electronics.

yes Harbeth's 30.2XD's and The superHL5plus XDs tried and sold

they were very nice, I have some mild criticisms better suited to a harbeth discussion, let's just say not my cup of tea

those JA look very nice

the Ascend's pricepoint allows me to try and buy regardless as a stop gap, custom seas driver, raal ribbon, and Klippel measurements, appears to be a level of actual R&D and published measurements beyond alot of the smaller independant companies

You should look at ATC speakers which seem to have the characteristics you are looking for. My dealer, Audio Connection is a big fan and sells Ayre and ATC,Vandersteen, Proac and Magnepan. Good Luck!

Ayre and Vandy's are a great match. In your budget, a pair of Treo's or Quatro's used, would be great choices.

As Joey pointed out John Rutan (Audioconnection) would be a very good source for information, as he is very familiar with many brands (and, not just the one's he sells). He is on Audiogon and Audioconnection is his tag. Otherwise, call him. I can tell you, honestly, that he is not like most dealers and won't try to sell you something- only provide the best/honest information. And, if you doubt me, just do a search here on Audiogon.
