Three Dog Night – Seven Separate Fools (Dunhill 1972)

The MoFi ’One Step’ Mingus Ah Um. While this record is good, I feel it does have a certain digital sheen to it that is obvious after one knows its ’history’. I say this, as I followed it up with the Tone Poet release of Breakin Point by Freddie Hubbard, which was mastered by Kevin Gray and from an all AAA tape. The difference in overall SQ ( at least on my system) is fairly easy to hear. The ’One Step’ Mingus is just a little less warm and a tad less airy sounding. Both good, but the TP has the better SQ, surprisingly!
