Speaker binding posts with plastic covers

My Krell amplifier has speaker binding posts with the clear plastic covers. Apparently these are for EU safety requirements. I want to use spade connectors and have no idea how to open these covers. I’ve wrestled with them but they don’t budge. I don’t even know whether they unscrew or pull out or whether there is some other method at play. Does anyone have experience with these?

@rfprice

Those speaker posts look pretty much identical to the posts that came on the Parasound A21+ which I owned.  If the same, just unscrew the cap as you would most binding posts.  The only semi-difficult thing was figuring out how the spade connected, as it needs to be at a certain angle.  Once figured out, it holds the spade exceptionally well.

I doubt Krell would adopt a different, less convenient binding post, at least for US sales.

people are telling you their experiences with their connectors that do unscrew, like mine .....

the type you posted DOES NOT unscrew. read the full description

another spade to banana adapter,

I sent an email to Krell yesterday. Their response: "They just unscrew." So I'll have to just unscrew them. I'll try some channel lock pliers. Do you think a blast of Deoxit might help loosen it?

@rfprice

Now that you unscrewed them once, they should be good. And I don’t believe Deoxit has any lubricants in it.

All the best.

I have similar situation and all I did is just busted plastic covers leaving metal screw caps. They don't hold up tight and within the time they will twist off.

Later I've replaced them with brass nuts

@curiousjim Deoxit F5 is specifically designed for switches and has lubricant. Any other Deoxit is also similar to penetrating oil
