The Good Stuff

There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind ... the only yardstick by which the result should be judged is simply that of how it sounds. If it sounds good it's successful; if it doesn't it has failed. --  Duke Ellington

This purpose of this thread is to provide a place to post outstanding examples of the Good Music.

Jackie Venson:

Band was good. Her voice not the best for blues.

Born in the Right State, went to the wrong school. I knew something was wrong.

Jackie Venson is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist from Austin, Texas. She graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2011. -- Wiki

Greetings to you, Frogman. I’ll be interested to read what rok has against Berklee.

Just finished listening to Cedar Walton’s Eastern Rebellion (the first one w/George Coleman). Another debt to Orpheus’ aficionados thread. Really like George Coleman’s tone throughout (and his 5/4 Thing composition very much).

Mode for Joe opened up today. Got intrigued and ended up with Joe Henderson’s album of that name. Cedar Walton also playing.. Old hat for many of you, but mostly all new to me with miles to go before I sleep.

Frogman - re the Jackie Venson, her guitar playing is very good...electric and acoustic + she has great (and, to my ear, unique) tone. Her band is tight and the recording SQ is excellent (listened to the studio version of Love Transcends). The songs are good...some are strong. Agree with Rok, however...her voice, while good, ain’t the best for the blues. A little too white if I’m allowed to say such these days. There’s a place for superb diction. The blues ain’t that place. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation. I expect I will be listening to it again.

Female singers singing the Blues.  The first one was actually posted by The Frogman on JFA.   So I know he knows the real thing when he hears it.  Sometimes he just wants to, as Acman3 would say, start a ruckus.
