Preamp Deal of the Century

If anyone is looking for a true "World Class" preamp at a very fair price..heed my advice. I just recieved a Supratek Syrah preamp that was hand built by Mick Maloney in Western Australia, and it is absolutely beautiful! This preamp is the best deal you will ever find. I would put it up against any preamp out there for both looks and sound. Price? $2500 for the Syrah (includes Killer Phono stage). Not into phono? Try the Chardonney line stage for $2100. Don't get me wrong, I am not associated with this company. I am just a very happy owner! This preamp is VERY dynamic, yet liquid. It conveys the sound of music better than any other preamp that I have ever heard! You can check out the Supratek website at www. cantech.net.au

@snopro   Thanks!  That’s exactly what I’ll do with the subs.  They do have speaker level inputs, so should be fine.

@tksteingraber thanks for sharing the tech’s info and the thread.

@jslateiv  thanks for the explanation on the grounding — makes sense.  Nowvthat I know how it’s meant to operate, i can set it up properly. The Freya+ spoiled me with features but the Chardonnay sounds so much better.

Thank you all for helping me out!

I am interested. I have a home theater system so I need a pre amp that has a bypass. Does the Supratek have a bypass mode?

Greetings, fellow Supratek owners.

The topic of this post is to ask whether anyone here is using a step up transformer with their Supratek preamp with the LCR phono stage. If so, what kind are you using and how are you setting it up?

I am in the process of evaluating several SUTs and a Hagerman transimpedance device directly into my system. I turn down the input gain so it doesn't overload the phono circuit and it seems to work well. I'm enjoying the effect of the SUTs. In some ways they remind me of a subtle DBX system (anybody remember those from back in the '80s?) That is, they seem to increase the dynamics.

So, anybody else been down this path before?

@marcusthenaimnut,

 I am no expert, but what you are doing doesn’t make sense to me. The Cortese has a very high gain phono stage, I have one myself. You are turning down the gain on the Moving Coil pre, then boosting it back up with step up transformers?

SUT’s work with Moving Magnet phono stages that have a 47k loading. You cant set the load to 47k on an MC phono stage.
