90% of audio dealers are the equivalent of car salesmen - they will say anything they have to in order to induce you to buy something.
One local one I used to go to was always touting a particular brand that they represented, saying that nothing sounded quite as good. When I went back there after a year or so, I found that they had lost that line and were selling different gear. They asked what I was using and then denigrated the same brand that they had been praising before they lost it.
When I pointed that out to them, they started tripping over their own feet/tongues trying to dig themselves out of their pile of BS and I left, having told them that I wouldn't be coming in again.
Finding the 10% that are actually pleased when they find you what you need is hard, but worth it.
