Has anyone here had any dealings with Tekton, particularly their subwoofers

As I explore options for replacing equipment I am it seems constantly finding new sources of components to consider. Tekton has appeared on my radar due to another thread here at audiogon. I just wondered if anyone has gone this direction for subwoofers in particular, but I also have questions about their full range speakers and what they are like to deal with. Given that the world of hi-fi has become even more of a smoke and mirrors game than it has been in the past, I am more cautious about who I am willing to throw down money for than I ever have been.

To end my rant, I was going to buy subs but after the months of waiting on the wires and being told they’d ship immediately, I was a little soured on them for my subs and went with rhythmiks instead, which I HIGHLY recommend for subs. Would love to hear a pair of 4-10s or 6-10s but felt I’d get a smoother experience with rhythmik. For what it’s worth, with my tektons tops and rhythmik bottoms, I’m at +/-3 DB frequency response from 25 hz to 20 khz at my listening position with limited room EQ. Tekton has a pair of 4-10s on their specials for $1700. Definitely tempting... but I do love my rhythmiks

@jrareform Hard to beat out Rythmiks in the sub world, but, the tekton subs with a driver at head height and above do help deal with some heightwise & coupled modes, even if someone doesn’t quite get the physics behind how they couple into a room. Otherwise, in many instances, one may need to start lifting a regular sub off the floor in a multisub config.

One may regularly see some Rel stacks that sum to a small fortune and continue to sound like mud, for example, in some of the ’high end’ rooms.... A single one of these Tektons has the potential to beat em all out in execution...(at normal listening levels for most guys, 85-ish db & under, that is)

"thank you all for your comments and ideas. And the info about Amir and Tekton's squabble. It puts things in perspective for me. You guys may have saved me a great deal of heartache and trouble."

That comment in no way jives with the other responses.

+1 @corelli .

I have had their OB Sigma speakers for about six years. I consider them an ingenious design that simply never caught on. They are in the master suite, driven by a Peachtree Carina 300. It's an independent thinking speaker company with some very compelling deals. Cabinets are sturdy but not boutique. Drivers are artfully arrayed but off the rack.

@devinplombier + 1 I would never, ever buy from a company that threatened reviewers with legal action. While I could afford their gear, I would never buy anything from dCS for that reason.

I've never heard Tekton speakers so I'll say nothing about the sound, but it would be pointless to do so as I'd never let anything that looked like those anywhere near my house. Aesthetics are subjective and a matter of preference and importance to different people, and to my sense of aesthetics, Tektons are appalling. But if you like how they look, great; that's what's important!

@incorrigable the drivers are "off the rack" but he goes through many tweeters to find matched responses, and bins the other ones.  Not exactly the most environmentally friendly way to go about it, but I can't argue with the sound.

@larsman I thought the same thing, but in person is a lot different than seeing pictures online.  In a dark cabinet, the seven tweeters aren't that noticeable.  I understand if you want really pretty boxes that put out decent sound.  I'd rather have speakers that sound like heaven than look like it.  And ofc beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I think they look solid in person.  A subjective matter regardless

@deep_333 yes, this is exactly what compelled me to give them a try.  At the time he recommended running a dbx crossover which added noise to my signal chain. It was before he started selling amp plated subs or I may have considered along with the wires taking months to get to me.  Spreading out the bass vertically like in the 4-10 or 6-10 certainly can help with nodes.  That being said, my frequency response is quite good with two F12 rhythmiks near the middle of the room.  My room is fully treated 16.5' x 13' with 10' ceilings
