The Legendary ? Infinity IRS V

Does anyone know anything about these speakers, their current market value or sound quality compared to more recent statement loudspeakers?

I remember hearing them once years ago at Lyric hi fi in New York, driven by gigantic Jadis tube monoblocks, a Goldmund turntable and reading in TAS that they were the holy grail of high end audio.

I am sure not too many were made but I cant recall seeing any for sale.

Was this speaker a real high end classic or just overhyped?

Hi

I'm the new owner of these IRS III speaker, wish to upgrade to active crossover to JL CR1, anybody can advise me on the XLR output from the crossover to bass tower. Can it be a direct swap.

Should I upgrade the passive crossover for the wings too.

Thanks, regards.

Thanks, regards.

Great discussion on the irs v I have put electronic crossovers on and tried amped them . 200 hz 5000 hz  got rid of the acceleronomer changed the woofers.bhk 300 on mid. SEveral class d on woofer or crown 12000 itec depending on mood and hearing loss. Tweeters mcintosh tube amp or manley tube sometimes gan class d or pure class a amp. With age and figititis they keep getting better as does the technology  i would like to find some mids made out of teonix with neon magnets enjoy the search and the music

Very good for the time, but would not stand up to the state of the art at present. The speaker is defined, both pro and con, by the drivers. Very definitively so to my ears.

Paul McGowan sold his pair of modified/updated IRS V's earlier this year.
