Chinese Cables that sound good
Please share your chinese cable purchases that sounded good, and even horror stories of cables that didn't work out.
People get lured into aliexpress and other sites when the see expensive looking cables that appear very similar to well-known audiophile high-priced units, but at a fraction of the cost.
THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT IF ITS RIGHT OR WRONG TO COPY OTHERS' DESIGNS. ITS ABOUT WHICH CABLES SOUND GOOD AND/OR PERFORM WELL.
There are lots of chinese cables to choose from:
- Power cables
- USB cables (separating signal and data)
- Speaker cables
- Interconnects
- HDMI / IIS cables
I've tried a pair of Xansane silver plated copper, braided, speaker cables, to replace generic 12AWG copper that I was using. The pair cost around $230 CAD. It appeared to be made well. However, I didn't notice any difference in the sound of my speakers. 2nd however, I also didn't take notes beforehand or do critical listening...I was just expecting to be blown away somehow but I wasn't. I will be DIY'ing my future cables (power, interconnects, USB, and maybe speaker) using the DIY Helix cable information found on this site (link to thread).
But for now, I want to see what worked for other people.

During the early COVID years, I developed an interest in Chinese cables. While browsing AliExpress and various forums, I was looking for something relatively affordable but with good build quality. Eventually, I acquired RCA interconnects from Viborg, SKW, and Choseal. At the time, I didn’t realize that Choseal is a major player in the region and also serves as an OEM for various well-known companies. I don’t want to bore you with the details, but I absolutely loved the Choseal cables (models AB-5408 and QS-992). They deliver a very musical, natural sound and likely use genuine OCC-based materials. In my opinion, they are definitely superior to Viborg and especially SKW. I’ve recommended these cables to a few friends, and all of them share the same positive opinion. For some reason I can’t post a picture here, but the link below works. Happy New Year |
I mostly buy boutique stuff from American although I do get stuff from Amazon. I don’t think it is possible to divorce yourself from bad labor practices which exist in every country unless you are completely off the grid and only living off the land so I’m not going to get into the right or wrong of it. Even if you just buy American, that doesn’t mean that component parts or some materials didn’t come from elsewhere. Anyhow, back to the OP’s question.
