I use a UniFi POE switch in HVAC closet, ethernet cable to UniFi In-Wall (https://store.ui.com/us/en/category/all-wifi/products/u6-iw) by the audio equipment ... the UniFi In-Wall is powered by POE and also has 4 port switch which covers other network connected items in the rack ... Offers WiFi to the general area which is helpful as well.
Where to Place Network Switch
Good Day Audio Fans,
I will soon receive a network switch. I am getting an Ansuz Power Switch for ethernet distribution and noise reduction. I currently mainline my ethernet from the router to my dCS Lina DAC & Master Clock. Do you think it will make a difference if I put the Ansuz on the Router side of the ethernet cable versus the DAC side of the ethernet cable? I’m thinking if there is no difference, then I could put the switch by the router, and plug in my home theater equipment (TV, AV Receiver & Blu-Ray player) as well. The home theater room is just a wall away from the router but the main audio system is another floor away with a 50ft ethernet cable.

Great info at these sites. Lots of great information to plow through. https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/forum/20-networking-networked-audio-and-streaming/ https://www.whatsbestforum.com/forums/computer-based-music-server-forum.23/ https://www.alpha-audio.net/streaming-audio/computer-network/network-switches/ |
I’ve trouble following your set up. Is it possible regardless of how you set it up? Which version of the power switch are you using? I just use modem followed by a router followed by switches. And then the audio file grade switch I use is obviously closest to the streamer. I don't go directly from the router to the streamer don't see the point. I have an electric eight switch which is nice looking and seems well built.

@lalitk thanks much Thanks for all the discussion. I have a Roon nucleus, so I need to have it connected to the router in my current set up so Roon is spread about the house (multiple rooms). Plugged the mainline ethernet cable (going to the dCS) into the modem, but then lost access to the Roon Nucleus. If I have the Ansuz Switch down next to the Modem, by the home theater, and at the far end of the ethernet cable, then I can connect everything via the switch. Hope that makes sense. But my inclination, as others have said, is to have the switch closest to the dCS DAC/Clock. |
