Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too?

For me there is one that has always been top of the list.

Edith Piaf…..l just can’t think of anything worse.

Do not get me wrong and consider my choice is in any way racist….l love to listen to music with songs in any language… Italian, French, Spanish…..

Russian and German can however be extremely demanding, but Edith Piaf (if possible in any language) is a potential harrowing experience.

Do any others on here have a similar artist, or artists that can trigger the same physical reaction?

The darling of Stereophile critics, Joanna Newsom.  I've tried several times to listen to her but I tap out after 15 seconds.

@jdpalmer1 ,

Just popped on and heard a Joanna Newsome song/video for the first time.

Don’t think I lasted 10 seconds.

Tori Amos. Her depressing, whiny tone gets under my skin real fast. Never bothered to listen long enough, maybe her lyrics are good?

’’Funny story in this regard’’

Your Rod Stewart comments….

Yes he’s nearly cringe-worthy for me too. Started off good but is now past his ‘use before’ date.

My Rod Stewart (in the UK) story:-

He sat next to me at a concert of The Tornados in about 2010. He was very charming after he sat down and apologised for him and his friend having had a few too many drinks earlier. True to form he jumped up twice to the loo during the two supporting acts. He apologised again in the interval and said, ‘It is an age thing’’ He didn’t mind me calling him Rod and l introduced him to my partner (you will know why later) and he signed a few autographs from fans sitting near him.
After the concert he was waiting for his lift outside. I said hello again and asked him if he still owned his hotel in Torquay. He said he had sold it adding, ‘’Didn’t fool you did l’’ My partner was astonished as she didn’t realise l was playing her too and enjoying the whole scenario.

He was a dead ringer, short with spiked hair, wrinkles, wearing the customary white jacket and even talked Rods local accent. He just loved acting up the role.

Yes some old singers do not know when to quietly fade away….

ideally like the end of one of their tracks.

Rap, in general. And Miles Davis. Don’t know if he was a unique flavor of jazz or not. I like Diana Krall, Herbie Hancock.
