Parasound JC1+ and JC100 monoblocks have two sets of output connections for bi-amping speakers.
You're mistaken. Those are for bi-wiring not bi-amping.

Ah.. That makes sense. Thanks for 'splaining.
Is bi amping worth it ?
New thinking ?
the subwoofer world is quite confusing . so I have left that decision alone for a bit. I have recently read where bi amping the khorns could give me the little more bass punch I am looking for. ? The 601 mono-blocks certainly have enough power but I have a tube pre amp C-2300 that does not separate bass and treble signals so would need to add an external crossover.
anyone have any experience with this ? Is this worth the effort ? And if so any recommendations on the external crossover ?
thanks again everyone. I greatly appreciate all input from this forum.
Many misunderstand what you are saying and it is a big distinction. I am currently setting up a combo theater and 2 channel set up. 40 channels of power amp- to 40 separate drivers all actively controlled crossovers using 2 MiniDSP Flex HTX and 3 Flex Eights. 4 Monolith 7x200 amps. 8 channels of ATI AT6000- to run the 2 channel. Two Dayton SA1000's running Buttkicker LFE's, 2 Monolith active 15" subs and two M&K MX350 12" subs. The two channel will be 18" woofers in their own box. JBL 2441 compression driver paired with Yamamoto F350ii horns. B&C De120 tweeters and all the subs and butt shakers active. |
@billpete I remember hearing the ar 9s back in the day. Incredible speakers .! I do love the clarity of the horns though and will stick with them for at least a few more years till we downsize into a smaller house and probably , physically won’t have room for them. wanted to ask what you thought about running the speakers through the 2 ohm taps. ? The 601s have 8-4-and 2 ohm taps so it’s easy enough . The horns are rated for 8 ohm but I did not like the sound at eight ohms. They really came alive at 4 ohms. Does it make sense to try the two ohm taps. ? Can that hurt anything. ?

OP, The Cambridge exn 100 is a budget streamer. You can easily assemble a streamer / DAC combo that sounds the same or much better than the McIntosh mvp 871. It is a question of careful choice and investment. In today’s world it is worth working on making streaming your best sounding option. I would abandon the bi-amping for now and concentrate on getting your components sorted out. You want synergistic and an equally capable streamer, DAC, Preamp and amp. Assuming you are happy with your speakers. Then you work on cables and power cords. If you make your decisions based on the sound quality of the components, I have ended up investing about streamer = DAC = Preamp = Amp < speakers. My vinyl = CD = Streaming... except where streaming is high resolution... then streaming wins. This is here now and the future... streaming...so I’d recommend getting that right. |
I'm glad you got to hear AR9's way back when. I also heard Klipschorns many years ago and they did sound very good. It is a different kind of quality. I just read about and heard a discussion about their origin and Mr Klipsch. They began shortly after WWII and his story is quite entertaining. He even had something to say about early AR's, citing bullshit which became a bit of his mantra. He was quite a character. Anyway, 2 ohm would make me nervous but there are many here far more qualified than myself to answer that. There are builders and designers here. I am just an avid listener, who is still not deaf after nearly 73 years of listening to rather loud music...........within reason. @ghdprentice may be onto something. I know diddly about streaming and I don't know your primary source. I don't stream and I possibly never will. It is as important to me as having an HT system..........not at all. I'm just an old stereo geek. Check his sytem/systems out. He knows a thing or two as do a great number of the experts here. They have likely seen and heard it all. |
