Scott 222C Love

I've been blessed to have a really good, expensive system that I've built over the last chunk of years. I also have a Scott 222C that I keep as a backup in case something goes wrong.

Last weekend my Lamm preamp suddenly got noisy, so out it came from the system and in went the the Scott, replacing the Lamm and an Ayon Crossfire SET Amp.

Been listening all week with my Lamm Phono Pre (I have no digital source) plugged into the Scott and I have to say I'm definitely getting 90% of the enjoyment that I normally get. It's crazy how good the Scott sounds. Quiet as can be. Great bass, wide and deep sound staging.

I think everyone should own one!

Yes it produces a great sound.  If you like vintage gear find an old Lafayette KT-550 power amp and really hear something special.

I really enjoy 7189 and EL84-based push-pull amps from that era. There are a lot of good ones, including the Scott 222, that can still be the centerpiece of a very good system.

The first component hi-fi I heard (in the Summer of 1968) contained a Scott 222. I put together my first system that Summer, but being unsuccessful at locating another Scott settled for a Fisher X-100A. I didn’t yet know it, but the Fisher was the better amp.

I didn’t have the X-100 long (I was upgrading rapidly in those days), but now have an amp that also uses a quad of EL84’s, and it’s a keeper: the Music Reference RM-10 Mk.2. I'm in good company---John DeVore also has one.

Oops. I suddenly remembered that the Scott integrated I heard in '68 was not a 222C, but rather a 299C.
