Rega's T/T power supply: Is it worth the money?

I recently purchased a Rega P3-24 turntable with their Elys II cartridge. So far I have enjoyed what I have heard, but have played less than 25% of my LP's. I have read some reviews of Rega's TT PSU power supply as part of reviews of their tables. Nevertheless, at $375, it seems pricey considering the table and cartridge retail for $1200--- that is, the PS costs almost 30% of the rig. I have read that the difference with it in line range from subtle to a marked improvement in the sound. I would like input from members who own or have owned this upgrade....Also would the Project SpeedBox II work with the Rega P3-24??. Thanks, Jim

Learsfoll,

it's really not my intention to nitpick or even to argue per se. Perhaps I misread your original post. I thought you were saying the P7 was twice the price of the P5 with the TTPSU. Also, whereas I agree that the P5 is a significant step up from the P3, it is less of a step up from the P3/24, especially given that the TT PSU is available to the P3/24. I still think the P5 is worthwhile as the price difference is not that much.

Frank_sm,

Perhaps I'm mistaken but I thought the P7 PS was tuned to the specific table/motor that it comes with and that the P9's was more sophisticated.
I was also told by my dealer that the TTPSU for the P5 & P3/24 are all the same for each dedicated model whereas each P7 TTPSU is matched to the motor; meaning all P7 TTPSU are not alike.

With all due respect, your dealer is wrong. I know a reviewer who spoke with Roy Gandy personally about this. The only reason the P. Supply is included with the P7 is because it comes with a dual belt pulley which does not allow swapping between 33 1/3 and 45rpm. Call Steve at sound organisation and he'll make it clear if you don't believe me, or go to this thread and read post #90.
OOPS, I just realized we can't post links. Call Steve then.
Frank,
Thank you for cleaqring that up with me. I did speak with Steve and he did verufy what you stated. Sorry if I mislead anyone about this issue.
