Viva la Vinyl!!

Hey fellow vinylphiles! How about some feedback on any new vinyl discoveries, particularly on the fairly regular stream of reissues. Any real gems? Any dogs to avoid? None of us want to drop 25-30 bucks on a 180 gram slab 'o' vinyl only to discover something better heard on CD (OK you CD diehards, no offense - I listen to the silver discs too, just not NEARLY as often) Anyway, let's hear it for the continuing vinyl renaissance!

I recently purchased The Beatles, "Yellow Submarine" on yellow vinyl, re-issue. Wow, this is fantastic stuff! The sound reveals how beautifully recorded these session were. The low end is full and ripe. The high end is also sweet and extended. Hey, don't argue with this metaphor, read "no digital edginess". For $35.00 it is one of the best buys out there. I own some of the MCA heavy vinyl Hendrix stuff and wonder how this compares to Classics? Anyone care to compare? Also, the Who's, "Who's Next" MCA Heavy Vinyl is mighty good and worth the money!
BTW, as for dogs, so far,it has been my experience that this is dependant on the material used. If you don't like the music, well..... I have heard, though, that some Euro re-issue are digital dubs made to vinyl, i.e., Simply Vinyl. However, I can not comment on their sound due to the fact that I can't see paying $35.00 dollars fora vinyl copy of a digital re-issue. That is, IMO, just equalizing and further coloring the sound. Hey, wouldn't that make the name Simply Vinyl and oximoron?

Ramsti, I have some of the MCA Heavy Vinyl of Jimi Hendrix, and I ejoy it, But if you really want to here a great Hendrix recording, get the Classic reissue of Axis..Bold As Love....it is amazing! I also have Whos Next on MCA Heavy Vinyl, on German import, on British import, and on Japanese import. If you can find it, get the Japanese import. This is the best version.
...i like MA recordings. Check Vlatko Stefanovski, Dusan Tadic "Krusevo"(it was r2d4 in stereophile) also i like "Audioquest" and Robert Lucas. You wont be dissapointed.
