Palasr...THAT sir, was a great story! For all of you Lee Morgan fans, please read the story in the link posted by Palasr above.

Lee also did good work with Art Blakey and John Coltrane.

Check out the cut 'Party Time' it's on "The Procrastinator" album.

First heard Sidewinder on my brother's 4-track when I was in high school. Right then Lee Morgan became my favorite trumpet player. I also had the great fortune of seeing/hearing him live - in what was one of his last performances - at the L.A. Shrine Auditorium (Rasaan Roland Kirk, Willie Bobo, and the Gerald Wilson Orchestra were on the same card).

That was before I discovered Miles. Over the years I've collected and listened to about equal amount of music of both. Funny thing is, I have never heard or seen anything where Miles acknowledged Lee in any way. He talked about Wynton, said Freddie Hubbard ain't sh**, but never anything about Lee. I wonder what that was about.

A former horn player many moons ago, I so appreciate the legacy of these giants of jazz ... Lee Morgan being one of the greatest ever IMHO.

Strateahed, Miles must have been one of the most egotistical musicians who ever lived; especially in his latter years. I saw him on DVD looking like a genie out of a bottle, in his Arabian Nights outfit, and although the musicians with him were so new that I didn't know any of them, they could blow. ( he never lost his ability to find the best musicians) The sax man was really gittin down, and before he could finish his solo, Miles jumped in sounding like an Ardvark fart; he was name only at that time. No way he would have done that in times past.

I have Miles Autobiography, and not one mention of Lee Morgan.

Enjoy the music.
