Class D question...............

Hypex has made some great leaps in the last 2 years. The company has introduced HG modules with new regulators that sound amazing. Kharma is using Hypex modules in their MP series big buck amps. The technology is proven and sounds really nice. I am now on a second pair of class D amps. I had previously a Karan integrated ($8k) and Melos MAT180 tube amp. The class D is a nice middle ground between good solid state and good tube amp sound. Looking back to the 50's when car manufacturer's were messing around with the new technology fuel injection. Some dropped it after a few years. Now it is on every car made. Technology has finally caught up with the idea as is true with class D. A review written a year or two ago about class D sound is now mute.

Stereo, I built a power amp with the HG modules and regulators, 200w/8ohms per channel. Hypex transformer and power supply. It is the best. I use a tube pre and the sound is both detailed and warm. I have heard solid state pre's with Class D and I don't like it. Very "thin" and cold. With the tube pre, right on the money. The very old with the very new.
The dynamics, the amount of musical information and wide sound stage are stunning. I have a tripath based power amp which is good, but the Hypex UcD is better. Glad to hear there is another Hypex fan. Good listening.

Hi Jw, I am building UCD700HG monos with the HxR regulators. I just sold my UCD700AD monos.

I agree with the tube preamp. I also use a tube preamp. I have a modified Audio Mirror Pp1. The system sounds great! It is very revealing, but smooth.

I didn't mean mute sorry, I meant moot. I am stupid like that sometimes. So any discussion on a year or older class D amp should be moot.

This may well be where I am headed some day when the time comes for a juicier amp in my system.

At the moment (never mind the recently departed amps), I have the following amps in rotation (in one system or another) - Cary 805, Cary 300b, TAD Hibachi Monos, Prima Luna 7 monos, ARC VT 130SE, Pancor Dyna re-issues, Pathos Classic One, a Magnum integrated (model???) and Bel Canto 300 integrated (class D). This speaks not only to a diseased mind, but also a certain amount of context. IMHO, with the right speakers (currently SF Cremonas), the Bel Canto is a wonderful sounding amp.
