Is using a X.1 AV receiver just for stereo bad?

Hello all:

I was wondering if anyone had had luck using a 5.1 or 7.1 AV receiver *just* for two channel stereo?

The values seem to be so much better for HTR, is there a reason not to get a unit like that and only use a fraction of its capabilities since it's cheaper than a S-channel integrated?

Thanks

Try to audition equipment before you buy it. Trust your ears. You will be able to hear audible differences in source material, recordings, speakers, speaker placement, pre-amps, amps, receivers, and, not to mention, cables. These differences are not necessarliy better, but they are different. Try to tailor the sound to what you like.
It is not bad if you like the sound. I used my Anthem 7.1 HT receiver for 2 channel for a few months before buying a dedicated pre.
