I thought his first recording under his own name was absolutely beautiful. I played it twice the week he died and I'm not ashamed to say that it brought copious tears to my eyes. I saw him perform some of this music live at the Village Vanguard in a concert that was taped for public television. I have never seen a tenor player that better used his monstrous technique to greater musical effect. He was mindblowing.
The Brecker Brothers: "Detente"
Also the "Return of the Brecker Brothers" and, "Cityscape" with Claus Ogerman
cityscape is prettycool,as is the first steps ahead.the tales from the hudson is also killer.the thing i like about the time is of the essence is chops are razer sharp, along with pat methaney.tain watts is an amazing drummer.sure will miss this innovater of the 70,80,ect.
Hello,
I was so fortunate to have been able to catch Mike Brecker live a good 15 times so. He was my favorite tenor player and a virtuoso in every sense of the word. He was always modest and had such a kind spirit.
So many great recordings, I guess his first solo recording is closet to my heart because it was released in the period (80's) that I was catching him live.

All the best,
Tom
