I'll add a cheer for Roy Hargrove. Just picked it up last night. Great CD. Great bass, soundstaging and music. Can't go wrong here.
Lots of good music out there. These have found their place in my rotation this year:
1. Female Jazz - Lizz Wright "The Orchard"
2. Piano Jazz- Brad Mehldau Trio "Live"
3. Guitar Jazz - Earl Klugh "Spice Of Life"
4. Horn Jazz - Roy Hargrove "Ear Food"
5. Stretch - Charlie Haden "Rambling Boy
This is a good thread! For those who haven't seen it please buy the latest DownBeat magazine issue as it has their annual review of highest rated cd's. It covers both new 2008 releases and historical ones. food for thought and a respected source for exploring new artists/new recordings.
My CDP was down for part of the year so I missed a few, but some 2008 fav releases were:

Lee Konitz: Deep Lee
Donald Bailey: Blueprints of Jazz Vol. 3
Bobo Stenson Trio: Cantando
Ketil Bjornstad/Terge Rypdal: Live in Leipzig
Nik Bartsch's Ronin: Halon
Tim Ries: Stones World
John Zorn: Filmworks XIX The Rain Horse
Kenny Wheeler: Other People
