Youtube, the new radio?

Marketplace on NPR had a piece yesterday about youtube metrics becoming a main factor for determining hit songs, replacing the traditional role of radio.

Seems like a good thing to me. People should have more direct say now in what becomes a hit based on popularity, with radio stations and their corporate owners having less influence on these things by deciding up front what gets airplay or not.

What do y'all think?

the website is a pain to bother with and I have no desire to see the videos in most cases otherwise I like the idea of peoples views being counted
I like how Youtube is setup ,and have spent many enjoyable hours watching videos. There is a boatload of real crappy videos, but also some very good ones.Old TVshows ,music, how to.It has its flaws but I like it.Also gives a lot of talented and ,,not so talented people the chance to be seen and heard. And it gets many videos that are of interest to folks that would not have a chance to see them if not for Utube!Viva Utube!
