Top vs flat loading cd transport

Is it conincidence hi end cd player are top loading? Or are there reasons why they use them.

These are durable, high quality engineered transports that don't use gear driven drawers, thus you have to use a top loading scheme. It's not true that ALL high quality transports have been top loaders. Mark Levinson manufactured their own transports (with drawer) in house.
