Last night at Chapman Audio Systems

I wish all of you could have experienced what I experienced last night at the shop of Stuart Chapman Jones of Chapman Audio Systems. Stuart hand builds Chapman loudspeakers and has done so for several decades. His speakers have a reputation for superb build quality and for their ability to perform way beyond what one would expect from a speaker at their price point.
Many audiogon members are familiar with the Chapman products and the reputation that they have. Stuart is constantly seeking ways to make his already stellar products even better.
I live 3 miles away from Stuart and we get together at his shop at least once a week for critical listening to whatever pair of speakers he has going in the shop at the time. It might be an older pair of customer T7's that are in for the T7 upgrade program (which is phenomenal I might add), or it might be the latest new pair of T6MKII's or T77's. Regardless of what speaker model is running, it's always a lot of fun as well as a learning experience for us both. Our sessions ultimately benefit all Chapman owners.
Last night we had our first listen to my new pair of T6MKII's. Brand new, unbroken in, less than 24 hours on them...and they totally blew us away! These speakers do everything right! Unbelievable performance from a speaker that stands around 40 inches tall. They are quick, transparent, HIGHLY detailed and musical, and they fill the room with the biggest, most holographic, highly energized soundstage I've ever heard! Words cannot even adequately describe the experience! We literally got POUNDED by these speakers! We were swimming in soundstage. I wish all of you could have experienced it with us because words are inadequate to describe it. Most of us seem to be on a quest seeking musical nirvana. I think we heard it last night at the shop!
I don't want this to sound like an ad for Chapman Audio Systems because it's not, but I did want to share my astonishing experience with anyone interested in hearing about it. I'm not professionally affiliated with Stuart. We're just good friends and have been for over 20 years. I've been blessed to spend countless hours with him doing just what we did last night. Except last night's session was beyond our wildest dreams! I'm a lucky audiophile indeed!

Mjw55,
Look up Douglas_schroeder here, there's pictures posted of them and his system.

There's also a review by him over at the Asylum under the speaker forum.
Thanks guys, I will check them out. I live in Kirkland so will have to give Chapman Audio a call and hopefully enjoy as much as you guys do. Nice reviews.
Hi Guys. Glad to see some responses. Stuart does not have a website just yet, but that is coming soon. He can be reached by phone at 206-463-3008. Leave a message if he doesn't answer. You can also email me as he and I are in touch almost daily. I keep him up to date with the internet stuff.
The shop system consists of:
1 pair Symphonic Line M300 Monoblocks at 400 watts each @4 ohms. They swing 95 amperes peak to peak.
Source: Rega Jupiter transport with a modified EAD DAC.
Preamp is a custom one off unit.
Interconnects are: Transparent Audio Reference.
Speaker cables: my MIT 850 Shotgun EVO's. This is the cable that led to the current Oracle series and is comparable to the Oracle V2.1.
Power cords: my Ps Audio xStream Statements.
Tweaks: Black Diamond racing cones under speakers, and Jumbo Pucks under the transport and power supplies.
There was so much energy coming from this system that things were vibrating off of the shelves in the shop...and that's with a concrete floor!
My system at home consists of:
Portal Paladin fully balanced monoblocks. 360 watts each @4 ohms.
Rega Apollo cd player.
Classe CP50 preamp.
Monster Power AVS 2000 voltage stabilizer and Monster Power HTS 3600 MKII filter and suppressor.
Ps Audio xStream Statement power cords. These are being replaced with MIT Oracle cords which arrived today.
Interconnects are MIT Magnum Proline XLR & RCA. These are being replaced with MIT Oracles which will be here next week.
Speaker cables are MIT Magnum M1's which are being replaced with the 850 Shotgun Evo's that are Stuart's right now.
Speakers are an older pair of Chapman T6's and are being replaced with the pair of T6 MKII's we listened to last night.
I'm also using Black Diamond cones and jumbo pucks under everything.
Bbros upgraded T7 is one pair we just finished listening to. It's been the pair we've listened to for the past 2 weeks. They came in for the T7 upgrade program and will be leaving the shop as a hotrod, as will all pairs of T7's that are in for the upgrade.
It's fun, we love it and everyone that owns or will own Chapman's benefits from it because we are such critical listeners. Stuart makes sure that the speakers are built to the nth degree before they leave. The final results speak for themselves.
There are Chapman reviews both here and at audioasylum as well.
I'd love to chat more with anyone wanting to do so. Email me. I pass it all on to Stuart because he's a speaker guy and not a computer guy.

Teajay. Sorry...I forgot to list the music. We listen to Yello 'The Eye' which is a FANTASTIC cd, Patricia Barber's 'Modern Cool' & 'Companion'. Some Linda Ronstadt, Emerson Lake and Palmer. REO Speedwagon, Golden Earring, Steppinwolf, etc. This system loves a well recorded disc, but also plays older recordings and does so in a very satisfying way. Older recordings that were almost unlistenable before now are pleasing to hear. We also use a Bedini Quadri Beam clarifier on each disc.
We love Yello, and if you want to show off your systems abilities, a copy of Yello 'The Eye' is a must have.
Hi Mike,

Glad to hear about your adventure.
I've experienced something similar a few times in the past.
My term for this phenomenon is "paradigm shock".
When something is radically better (or different) than we expect, our brain "freaks out" and unleashes emergency energy to analyze the occurrence and make sure it doesn't threaten our survival.

When the big "B" is comfortable with the "new thing", it calms down and our senses return to normal.

I think this is why you can have a fantastic restaurant meal today that won't be nearly as good a second time tomorrow.

I'm sure the speakers you heard are damn fine products.
Lots of stuff we buy is very good.
But when the "P shock" wears off we're left kind of unfulfilled and don't know why.

This is why I put credence in magazine reviews where
the author has lived with something for months.
Gives a good perspective.
