Tempted to buy a Macintosh I'm thinking of a McIntosh c53 or c2700 preamp to pair with my Firstwatt. I like the idea of tone controls since I listen to 78's and many vintage recordings. Plus, I like to bump the low end up a notch on RVG mastered albums.
Tempted to buy a Macintosh The Firstwatt, mentioned above, is fantastic. Much louder than you would think with 25 watts. Here's the kicker.........you can crank the J2 up super loud......the sound is as clear as normal listening volumes. I've never had an amp so clear near ...
What preamp creates the largest soundstage? The "make your own reference recording" is a great idea and easily done. Outside of DSP or some effect, I think the soundstage comes from the recording. I do not want any component "blocking" the recording’s soundstage in any form. Or any room obs...
Tempted to buy a Macintosh Beware of the MAC tube integrated amps with your Zu's. I have ZU Omen Defs myself. I wrote MAC and the total output gain is 44db. With the tubes you are looking at super loud tube hiss. I was running a tube pre with a ss, high gain amp with a tota...
How many people here generally buy used? A place like Audio Classics is ideal because they can inspect, repair, etc any Mac gear that they come across.
Has any heard the new McIntosh MA8900 integrated? I'm wondering once the whole virus thing is over, if Mac will update their existing SS integrated amps like the recent pre updates (c53/c2700). Including the DA2 module.
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp? By the way...if anyone with really sensitive speakers are considering one of the new McIntosh integrated amps (252.352), you may want to consider the high gain. Mac wrote me back and said their tube integrated amps have a total gain of 44db. The r...
McIntosh c2700 users please chime in? I would probably be fine with the c2600 if the DAC was upgradable. The non tubed version (c53) is also on my radar.
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp? I’m doing it because I am a bass head. (BHK Pre-First Watt J2)I find the low end has more punch and slam with a SS amp. Adding a tube pre adds a touch of silk to the mids and highs. One thing to consider (I have Zu Omen defs 101 db), is if you hav...

TEAC NT-505 - How good is it? As for DAC/Preamps...I hear the Myteks have excellent preamp capabilities
Lunim T2 vs Cary Audio DMS 600 Someone above said the T2 can sound a little bright on some music. That is telling me that the T2 faithfully reproduces what is streaming. Also, streaming services can have variations due to mastering versions, etc. I'm an overseas Qobuz subscribe...
Opinions on the current market One issue with smaller stores is inventory. If a dealer has something in stock, a good deal is waiting generally. However, I have been asking around about the Mac C2700 pre. Not many dealers have stock and the factory has been shut down.
Anyone using a Mytek Brooklyn or Manhattan (I or II) DAC as a preamplifier? any updates?
Seems like a lot of folks are putting their Primaluna amps for sale... I was tempted with PL gear. UA, for a few years, had NOS discontinued models under $1,000. UA advertises heavily in the stereo rags. I'm sure they are fine...I just decided to look elsewhere |
