Records, CDs, Streaming
Seldom do I stream or listen to my many cd's. I'm addicted to the sound of my Lp's. Plus, unlike some, I actually enjoy all the fuss it takes to play them. It makes me forget about life for the time being, as I'm fully engaged with something tangi...
Calling all Marantz Ruby owners
Marantz pair well with Wharfedales...I ran a pair with a Marantz Pm14s1 integrated and to me it sounded great. I'm hanging on to my 14s1, as it was the last class AB integrated made by Marantz. Your Ruby, although very nice I'm sure, turns me off ...
I miss my Loudness Button and Tone Controls....
I find that my tannoys have a nack of sounding good at lower volumes...but they do have a 10 inch cone, so maybe that helps...
Is it me? Will I ever be satisfied?
What is it that you are not happy with? You should make a list of what it is that you think needs improvement. Is the room carpeted, drywall, ceiling tiles, what furniture, etc... Additionally, how far apart are the speakers? You say you are 12 f...
Mogami - Quad 12 ga. in the house!
Never heard of them....I have my sights on a pair of Auditorium 23's...
Anyone heard the new Prince vinyl reissues?
No idea, I am not a huge Prince fan, but I hope it sounds good for you. I tend to stay away, mostly, from these new pressings. They tend not to sound all that great to me. Of course there are some exceptions like anything else....
Tekton Design - New IRL Technology - Lifelike, Real, Immersive
How is it any different than a Quad set up....that did not take off very well..although you can still buy Quad records as well as used precessors...I'll just stick to the lowly 2 channel set up.
Jay, cdt2
Just buy the Cyrus CD T from TMR...got mine there for only $999 brand new. It retails for $1299. It is probably just as good. I would say the DAC will make more of a difference in the sound. There is also the cheaper Audiolab....but to me, it is t...
Buying used vs new speakers from a technology perspective
The only thing I’d be worried about is the foam surrouds on the drivers....they will rot out after 20 years. Other than that, speakers have not changed all that much really. Old Tannoy, Altec Lansing, and Electro Voice Interface were some of the b...
Schiit Freya + Class A in Stereophile
The musical fidelity v90 dac was reviewed in Stereophile and was placed in the class A category as well. It is $299! I own 2 , one as a back up as it is now unavailable.  I think it is an Outstanding product.
Madman! Digital vs Vinyl
For as many cd’s or streamed content you show me, I can show you just as many vinyl Lp’s that will sound better. It is in the pressing. Some sound like utter garbage, others will make your head spin played on a good set up. I have yet to hear any ...
Pro-Ject CD Box DS3 "Redbook" Player
Pro-ject overall makes some nice stuff, too bad their turntables seemingly get a bad rap from some. I know first hand that their mid priced and upper tier tables are excellent. The Classic sb, especially with the ortofon quintet red was great valu...
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
My system is not set up optimally, I'll admit. It is a compromise called a marriage. Yes, I have a low boy credenza between my speakers, and a 50 inch flat screen TV sitting atop. To me, my system sounds pretty darn good. The best that it can poss...
TT speed
Any alignment of a radial arm is a compromise. The alignment procedure is supposed to achieve the least amount of distortion across the entire record surface, not eliminate distortion. So, to fuss over it excessively is futile.
Paper Based Speaker Cone Question
Tannoy uses paper cones.....some believe that the sound of music takes on the properties or characteristics of the material used to construct the cone.
