Preamplifier power supply
The whole idea of a power supply in audio electronics is to convert the alternating current (A/C) from the wall to direct current (DC).  DC current is required for anything regarding audio (it just cannot run from straight A/C like some motors can...
~$4,000 home theater + music system?
The PSB speakers are very warm and full in the midrange, but they are warm and soft sounding and will not have the clarity of the Snell (this is due to the polypropylene drivers used for midrange and bass).  Don’t get me wrong, they are very ple...
Where do I go from here?
That is awesome!  I’m glad the A21 is working out.  One thing you may try is to do critical listening with “Pure Direct” turned on and then turned off.  I had a scenario with a Yamaha receiver in which the Pure Direct mode sounded worse.  It was...
Where do I go from here?
I, personally, have never had luck with any sort of automated room correction. I had Dirac room correction in a Theta processor once. I really tried to work with it, trying all sorts of different calibrations and configurations. I could never get ...
Bass trapping - corners or walls?
I tried the extra large soffit traps once.  They did not seem to do much with the very low 50-70hz area.  And since they were broadband, they seemed to suck the life out of the room (too much mid/high frequency absorption).  I have since moved ont...
Any Tyler Acoustics owners out there?
And looking at PD series:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zindDSFQ65s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQp6gCpgc7s They use horn based tweeters and pro-audio style drivers.  They have their own sound.  I think they were going for a Klipsch horn-base...
Any Tyler Acoustics owners out there?
The regular Decade X Pro speakers that eldonparet has are going to sound smoother and more laid back (because they don't have the magnesium woofers).  Definitely not as crisp/clean.  They do sound good, but it's for a different demographic.  As I ...
Any Tyler Acoustics owners out there?
The PD-90's look like they use pro audio drivers for the woofers (using folded accordion surrounds).  That would match up with the extremely high 101db sensitivity.  I would be very careful with your equipment choice because these will be very sus...
Yamaha RX-V3800 and component output question...
The idea of "handshaking" is a two-way communication coordination.  This is only in specific digital protocols, such as HDMI or Ethernet.  Component video is completely analog and it's one direction only.  The DVD/VCR is just spraying out continuo...
Yamaha RX-V3800 and component output question...
You have mentioned 1024i, 1025i and 512p.  All these are non-standard resolutions that I have never heard of.  It could be that the older RX-3000 supported these and the newer 3800 is standardized on normal HDMI type resolutions (480i, 480p, 720p,...
Yamaha RX-V3800 and component output question...
You can try out a composite splitter. It’s just a Y-splitter cable because it’s all analog waveforms (just like audio, but different frequencies).  My thought would be just to convert the DVD/VCR to HDMI signals just like every other source device...
Yamaha RX-V3800 and component output question...
I think you'll need to spend a little money to resolve this. I would put in some sort of video processor to convert the VCR/DVD to an HDMI signal. Probably the cheapest way of doing this is a Gefen GTV-COMPSVID-2-HDMIS. It will convert a nor...
Where do I go from here?
yes, everyone has their opinion and that review that soix copy/pasted sounds very much like a magazine review.  I actually completely disagree with it, if you are using Hegel H160 as a sample.  Maybe if he was using the older generation Hegels bec...
Power Cables
oh jesus, that was hilarious!!
Emotiva XPA5 Gen 1
For your subwoofer, you will most likely have to get a couple RCA splitter cables like the following:https://www.amazon.com/AudioQuest-splitter-female-15-24cm-cable/dp/B000GUSQJG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1528944801&sr=8-2&keywords=audioq...
