Diffuser or absorber behind listening position....and is it worth doing??
Chorus recommended ua-acoustics for a really cheap solution.  Be aware that these are just foam panels.  They are NOT the same thing as GIK panels which use fiber material similar to Owens 703 and the like.  I have tried foam panels before and the...
Processor question
@dbphd - have you ever tried using your SP3 as the preamp?  I would say that the analog input/output sections on the SP3 are at the same level as a high end 2-channel preamp.  I would give it a try.  At that point, the KX-5 would only be used if y...
Diffuser or absorber behind listening position....and is it worth doing??
I have a room almost exactly the same size (11 feet by 17.5 feet).  Diffusers can be beneficial.  However, be aware that QRD type diffusers (quadratic) need very careful implementation.  QRD diffusers can do weird things to the sound if they are p...
Mcintosh MX170 2-Channel Sound
I think it is likely that a high end 2-channel preamp will still be better than the MX170.  While the MX170 is going to be a very excellent HT processor, it still uses op amps for all analog stages (both input and output stage).I think the only HT...
Processor question
@moag - yes, it is unfortunate that this is the case.  millercarbon pretty much just copies and pastes the same dang paragraph on every new HT thread topic.  Others also have the same kind of opinions.  Some of these comments do have an element of...
Processor question
I have not heard either, but I have done a lot of reading on them.  Based on what I've gathered, I think the Maestro X9 might be suited a little bit better for HT/movies.  The consensus is that it sounds very good, but the flexiblity on configurat...
Beginner Looking For Set Up Advice!
I would want it to be able to stream music, whether through airplay or some other system (Spotify connect, etc), and also work with my TV setup including a 4k blu ray player and an Apple TV. These requirements make it a tricky solution.  If y...
HDMI MOST MUSICAL CABLE
Always get a 2 meter minimum length for HDMI (even if you don't need it).  A shorter 1 meter cable will have problems due to signal reflections and will reduce high frequency resolution and video sharpness.
HDMI MOST MUSICAL CABLE
I have not used the Blue Heaven HDMI, but I did test with the Blue Heaven SPDIF digital COAX.  The digital coax was definitely brighter and more forward sounding than the Heimdall.  I would say upgrade to Heimdall and get a 2 meter if you can (I k...
Adjustable Spring Bass Traps
This idea could work.  You definitely want it in a sealed box (vented won't do the same thing).  You will need to put some sort of damping material on the inside back wall to cushion the "woofer spring" and increase the bass trap bandwidth.  The h...
High end processors - impact to video quality
Sorry, but I was at the Synergistic 20 minute demo at RMAF 2018.  I heard absolutely no difference with the HFT High Frequency Transducers (before/after they were removed).  The ECT is inconclusive to me, but all his electronics introduced some re...
High end processors - impact to video quality
That's correct.  Most separate "HT Processors" will not have any video processing.  There may be some exceptions, such as Marantz/Yamaha (where their AV receivers use the same HDMI board and may have some video processing/scaling circuits). That be...
HDMI MOST MUSICAL CABLE
Which Nordost do you have?  Since you did not mention, I am assuming "Blue Heaven".  For Nordost, I have used both "Heimdall" and "Valhalla" HDMI cables and neither were bright sounding.  Valhalla is the absolute best you can get.
How good is Krell Phantom III?
The Krell Phantom 3 was what the older Krell 280p evolved into.  It carries similar audio stages to the more expensive Phamton 2 and Phantom preamps, but the power supply is undersized (as was the 280p).  It is likely going to be a very revealing ...
PC Audio Interface Question:
PS: Don't worry about the phantom power/48v. That only goes to the XLR input anyway, which you won't be using. Actually, he would be using the XLR input because they are all built as XLR/TRS combo inputs.  I don't know the impact of using pha...
