Tune of the Day
  @loomisjohnson: I haven't heard, what's up with Ryan?
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@slaw: Congratulations on picking up the Rodney Crowell album, Steve. The Houston Kid has been in my Top 10 list of 21st century albums since it's release (on CD only) in 2001. I've been hoping for it to be released on LP, and bravo to VMP for ...
Tone arm length
Another factor to consider is the effective moving mass of each length. I don't know how much emm the 3" adds, but the lower a cartridge's compliance is, the more it "likes" a higher emm arm. And of course the inverse is also true.
Mary Martin Died
Mary Martin worked for Albert Grossman, who managed Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Peter Paul And Mary, Janis Joplin, and Ian & Silvia. In 1965 Mary heard a band named The Hawks performing somewhere in the Northeast (I believe is was out on L...
If A.I. took the place of musicians, would you listen to it?
  What's A.I.?
Sviatoslav Richter. Greatest pianist of the last century?
Jerry Lee Lewis. For a band member, Terry Adams of NRBQ.
Album(s) That Took The Longest To Come Around To
@grislybutter: RAM is my favorite of McCartney’s early albums, though I also like his s/t solo debut. I have never heard anything post-Band On The Run, so my opinion is of questionable value. I did get the Wings Wild Life album when it was rele...
Thinking About Selling and Replacing My Pop/Rock Vinyl Collection
@drmuso: I well remember the surface of the Preener material (velvet-like) becoming too wet when I first started using one. I removed the end cap of the inner tube, removed the "wick" and let the foam rubber under the velvet covering dry out, a...
Magnepan LRS plus & Atma-Sphere digital amps
The MG1.7i, like the LRS+, needs a sub (imo). @secretguy doesn’t like to hear it, but for about the same price as the 1.7i you can get the superior (imo) Eminent Technology LFT-8b. And it doesn't require a high current power amp.
Album(s) That Took The Longest To Come Around To
When I’m in the mood AC/DC, The Band just won’t do. And visa versa. But I am no longer EVER in the mood for Cream. Or The Jimi Hendrix Experience. I saw both live twice, in 1968 and ’69. And The Who twice those same years (performing the A Quic...
Album(s) That Took The Longest To Come Around To
AND Shoot Out The Lights is a great sounding recording, a bonus. I regularly use it as one of my demo LP’s.
The criteria for loudspeaker choices.
@ricevs: Your comments are always welcomed by me (by the way, I still own the Audible Illusions Modulus 2 pre-amp you "modified" for me about 25 years ago. Modified is an understatement; it is a complete redesign, turning the full-function pre ...
The criteria for loudspeaker choices.
Such as? I also own Quads ("57"s), Maggies (Tympani T-IVa), and ESS (Transtatics). In the past I have also owned Infinities (RS-Ib), Fulton Industries (Model J), a few others. It’s not that the ET LFT-8b is "better than the acknowledged master...
Elvis Costello's favorite album of his own.
@danbro: Now THAT oughta be great! Sexton's very cool.
Elvis Costello's favorite album of his own.
And I yours, @loomisjohnson. I realize my opinion of The Attractions is not universal, and I don’t consider it to be anything more than just my own. My taste in musicians runs to the playing of ensembles such as The Swampers (aka The Muscle Sho...
