To Fritz, Quicksilver, and all the exceptional makers trying to get the word out
I think a lot of new Magnepan owners owners find themselves surprised by that company’s speakers’ need for very high power at low impedances. I bought my first pair of Maggies---the original Tympani T-I---in 1973, and bi-amped it with an Audio ...
Which subwoofer should I get?
  Oops, "were" it not.
Which subwoofer should I get?
I would suggest any of the Rythmik Audio models, where it not for the fact that the company does direct-to-consumer sales only. I'm not sure what their audition policy is, so head over to their website to at least check them out. Then go to the...
«Today’s Lyrics Are Pathetically Bad» Rick Beato
Rodney Crowell's The Houston Kid is my favorite album so far this century. Buddy Miller is my favorite living musician/producer, Iris DeMent my favorite living songwriter. But there are plenty of others plowing the same field---great songs, gre...
To Fritz, Quicksilver, and all the exceptional makers trying to get the word out
An excellent post @hilde45!   Most of my favorite artists these days are known only to their small, cult-level audience, whose members tend to be older music lovers. But in exchange for being fewer in number, they are more faithful in their l...
The Aaron Copland / Bob Dylan connection
And hopefully a Happy 2025 to you @jafant    I just finished reading The Double Life Of Bob Dylan---A Restless, Hungry Feeling (1941-1966) by Clinton Heylin. Highly recommended! Now I gotta get my ass to the theater to see the new movie on hi...
Townshend Audio Seismic Podiums Review
For those with Sound Anchor speaker stands (or outrigger-style bases), rather than replacing them with the Townshend Audio Podiums, one can instead buy the Seismic Pods and bolt them onto the SA stands. That’s what I did with the SA bases made ...
«Today’s Lyrics Are Pathetically Bad» Rick Beato
Totally agree @stuartk. As far as I know, Beato is completely oblivious to the likes of Rodney Crowell, Buddy and Julie Miller, Jim Lauderdale, Mary Gauthier, and hundreds of other superior current artists. It wasn’t that long ago that Lucinda ...
Magico - Wide vs. Narrow
@tomic601: To your list of RIP geniuses I would ad Siegfried Linkwitz. By the way, Linkwitz himself "believed" in narrow front baffles, and in his open baffle models used electronic means of compensating for the dipole cancellation that is inhe...
Top 10 Live Albums
@slaw: My copy of Townes' live album is also the VMP version. By the way, VMP eliminating their Country "track" earlier this year was for me sad news. Correction for my first post in this thread: It's role model not roll model. I'm surprised n...
2025 Audio System Wish List Time!
  A bigger listening room.
What were your favorite gear additions in 2024?
A Music Reference RM-5 Mk. IV, the final iteration of Roger Modjeski's phono and line stage pre-amp. I don't really need it, but thought it would be cool to have a complete Music Reference electronic chain (I own his RM-9, RM-10, and RM-200 pow...
Nosferatu
I'll be seeing the new one this week, but my favorite is Shadow Of The Vampire. Willem Dafoe was robbed when he didn't win the Oscar for his performance in the movie.
Townshend Audio Seismic Podiums Review
I too did all my purchasing of Townshend Audio Seismic products from John Hannant, who was a pleasure to deal with. I have them under my speakers, turntables, CD/SACD player, and electronics. Not cheap, but imo money well spent.
«Today’s Lyrics Are Pathetically Bad» Rick Beato
Beato expecting to find "good" lyrics (or music for that matter) in the stuff most popular these days is akin to him expecting to find good food at a fast food restaurant. Kids listen to whatever music they are fed, and eat fast food regularly....
