A life sentence!!! @ticat: Another Zeta tonearm owner! An overlooked classic for sure. I’m surprised there has been only one mention of the QUAD ESL.
Need to learn about Audio Research @daveyf: When I was living in Palm Desert (115-120 degrees fahrenheit in the Summer) my system included a pair of Atma-Sphere M60s, with a total of 16 output tubes. It's a great sounding amp, but they put out a LOT of heat! Roger Modjeski reco...
Need to learn about Audio Research My history with ARC dates back to 1973, when I got one of the systems @whart referred to above: a pair of Magneplanar Tympani T-I’s bi-amped with Dual 75 and Dual 51 power amps, an SP-3 pre-amp in front (I now own a pair of the Tympani T-IVa’s,...
One of my favorite bands, one that many have never heard. @ezwind: I’ve been meaning to get myself a copy of the lone 1970 Wildweeds album for some time now. It is on Vanguard Records, and all but one song on the album were written by Al Anderson. I have Al’s 1972 debut solo album (on LP and CD), als...
One of my favorite bands, one that many have never heard. You guys on the East Coat make me green with envy! NRBQ came out to the West Coast infrequently. Here they are on some TV show, being introduced by David Sanborn, who sometimes performed with them live: https://youtu.be/p-6qGgL7kyk?si=h...
A life sentence!!! For the source component, it’s the Townshend Audio Elite Rock turntable/Zeta tonearm/London Reference pickup combination. For loudspeakers, it’s a pair of Eminent Technology LFT-8b loudspeakers with a pair of Rythmik Audio/GR Research OB/Dipole...
What are your top 3 favorite turntable companies (manufacturer) and why? @slofut: I too have a special fondness for the Townshend Audio Elite Rock. If I could have only one table, it would be the one. With a Zeta arm mounted on it, and a London pickup tracing the LP groove, I get the sound I'm most satisfied with.
Favorite Albums Not in the Mainstream Found on Streaming Services Ooo @wharfy, good choice! That Tony Rice album alone justifies the purchase of a record player. I pair 80 bucks for a mint condition Sugar Hill Records original about six months ago, but it recently received a reissue on LP by Craft.
One of my favorite bands, one that many have never heard. Agree with you on your every point @pdspiegel. But Tom Ardolino was on drums, not bass (that’s Joey’s instrument). I saw the line-up you cite twice live at The Roxy Theater on Sunset Blvd in the 80’s and 90’s, and more recently at a club in Por...
One of my favorite bands, one that many have never heard. Man @stuartk, that’s Lou Ann when she was much younger! By the way, Lou Ann was the singer in an Austin band named Triple Threat, which featured a young guitar player named Stevie Ray Vaughan. Lou Ann tours regularly with Stevie’s older brothe...
Recommendation for phono stage Following the lead of @slaw, the two Herron phono stages (no longer in production) can be had for not that much dough. Their owners love ’em, so you’ll have to be patient waiting for one to come up for sale. Mine isn’t. The VTPH-1 came in two ...
Vinyl Lovers-- Cartridges!!!! Do you have a daily driver? Thanks @dogberry. I used to keep up with the postings on Lenco Heaven, but had forgotten about the site until earlier this morning. Thanks for the reminder! I’m gonna email them today. I had been looking for a 4 Series Decca for quite a while ...
One of my favorite bands, one that many have never heard. When Lou Ann performs the song live, a "knowing" smile will occasionally cross her face. I wanted to post one of her live performances of the song (especially one with The Fabulous Thunderbirds), but none had the "Share" option underneath the v...
What are your top 3 favorite turntable companies (manufacturer) and why? I can't speak for VPI the company, but I sure can about founder/owner Harry Weisfeld. About five years back I bought myself nice used HW-19 and Aries model tables. A little while later I acquired a (used, of course) TNT-5 platter and bearing a...
A great, great talk by Robbie Robertson on all things The Band. @stuartk: I couldn’t agree with you more about Iris, my favorite living songwriter and singer. I made the mistake of taking her My Life album (on CD) to the CES in Vegas one year in the mid or late 90’s, and had Jerry Crosby play "No Time To C... |
