Totally agree. I've had high end audio for many years and I still get confused by certain specs---especially DACs. Clarity definitely helps.
What is wrong with my system?
Many great suggestions here. I agree with trying 'no cost' or the cheapest changes first like room placement, etc. As for cables (which could be the issue), check out the Cable Company (www.thecableco.com). They have a lending library where you ca...
Should I try XLR?
@sbank yes---thank you for that explanation. I'm currently looking for CD/streamers that have XLR outputs. The Technics SL G700 has some good specs and reviews.
What are your top 5 Billboard top 10 songs of the 1970"s?
I was a young kid in the '70s but I remember hearing these songs on jukeboxes and AM radios.1. Eagles - One of these nights2. 10cc - I'm not in love3. ELO - Evil woman4. Rod Stewart - Do ya think I'm sexy5. Bee Gees - How deep is your love
so, i recorded a type 1, normal bias, on a 70s cassette deck, and it sounds FANTASTIC
My homemade 'mix tapes' from the 80s-90s still sound great on my early 90's Denon deck.
Advice on a streamer
I have the Marantz ND8006 CD/Streamer ($1300) which I use for Spotify Connect. I use it with my Luxman 505UXii integrated amp. It plays through my WiFi and it sounds great. I have a lot of CDs as well so I can still use the 8006 if I want to play ...
Should I try XLR?
@lalitk Thanks for checking into ND8006--well, that solves that.  I should have looked into that myself. If I decide to 'tweak' or upgrade late, I'll try XLR.
Should I try XLR?
@gdnrbob Thanks for the response---but I have no idea what AES 47 protocol is. Guess I'll keep the ICs. LOL
I feel bad for GenX'ers that missed out on the 60s and 70s.
I have friends much, much younger than me and I listen to a lot of their music and they also to mine. I try to keep and open mind and not stay stuck in the same decade or two of recordings. There are many great artists beyond what's played on top ...
Do you all agree when Prince said the 60s, 70s and 80s were the golden ages of music?
I'm not a huge fan of Prince but I respect him as an artist. But I do agree with him---the fact that the music from those decades are still alive and well today. I would also consider this the Golden Age of music technology. All the changes that w...
Rotel RA-1592 MK II or something else to deliver around 200W to B&W towers around $3000?
I also agree on the Parasound Hint integrated---but maybe look at the Parasound preamp and a nice class D for power (Wyred 4 Sound, PS Audio...) Good luck!
Why the cost increase?
I got an email this week from Cary Audio (in NC) saying that their prices were about to increase in a day or so--a lot of their products are on sale at the moment. They cited the same reasons that most other companies have stated. It's a real sham...
Thinking of adding a sub---maybe not?
@mwinkc Thanks for the input--I've tried adjusting the tone controls but just I wasn't too happy with it. Hence, thinking of the sub. I realize my room acoustics is playing a part with this too. So a tweak here and a tweak there has affected the s...
Thinking of adding a sub---maybe not?
Thanks for  the suggestions---I'm going to definitely check out the SVS subs! I had a passive Canton sub back in the day with 2 tiny satellite speakers with my Denon PMA 757 amp. I could shake the dishes in the kitchen in my old house. Fun times! LOL
Lay Off the Newbies!
I have a younger friend in his teens that has just starting to get into audio---he has a hand-me down stereo from the early 90s. To him, it's the world. He's starting to buy vinyl now and has started asking me about updating his stereo. I find it ...
