Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age? @jadedavid Are you sure tues add odd-order harmonics? I mean REALLY sure? I know transistors add odd-order harmonics, but is that the case for tubes?
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age? @georgehifi The PP can certainly filter out signal. And yes, it's due to an impedance mismatch.
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age? Passive preamps are seductively transparent. They seem like qualified components in a dealer showroom. But living with them for longer periods can be tiring. The PPs suck dry musical dynamics, timing and related details. When compared side-by-...
Best phono cartridge under $350 If your phono stage can handle LOMC, then, in my carefully selective listening opinion, an AT OC9/II is your best choice (shop around and you can meet your price point). If not, there are a lot of MM / MI carts and a couple of HOMC carts that will...
Replacing Lyra Kleos at end of its life need suggestions as to what next? If you want to upgrade from the Kleos, please send the Kleos to me. I can help dispose of the cartridge. I will even pay shipping and more. Seriously.
Low Watt Solid State Amp I like bi-polar transistors, but only if they are medicated.
Replacing Lyra Kleos at end of its life need suggestions as to what next? Please define "end of life" as it pertains to the cartridge. If it is only a worn stylus, Soundsmith can replace it with a new one of similar or better profile. I have a Clavis DC in the hands of Soundsmith for repair as I write this.
AT OC9/II vs AT OC9/III @dodgealum Thanks for the link to your comparison. I'm reconsidering several options. Your observations are quite relevant since we are using the same pre-amp and phono stage.
Groove Glide. Yeah, nay or maybay??? I would ask Duane Goldman (The Disc Doctor). IMO, he is the authority on vinyl cleaning, and treatment of record surfaces.
Soundsmith Optimized Contour Contact Line Stylus for Rebuild @rauliruegas Something has been bothering me since your first post in this thread. You claim that your Clavis DC has a boron cantilever. It might, but it wouldn’t be a stock Clavis DC. A stock Clavis DC cantilever is fabricated from a ceramic-rein...
Soundsmith Optimized Contour Contact Line Stylus for Rebuild @rauliruegas Did you compare the Clavis DC with a boron cantilever to one with an OCL stylus on a ruby cantilever?
Soundsmith Optimized Contour Contact Line Stylus for Rebuild I appreciate all the comments. I received the information I was hoping for. Thank you. I have heard from Soundsmith. The stylus is worn, but the suspension is OK. The stylus is OK. Not the "low rider" as I feared. So I had some choicesI hav...
Tonearm Suggestions For Technics Sp15 Under 5k @chakster Thank you for proving my point.
Tonearm Suggestions For Technics Sp15 Under 5k @chakster Just because the OP asked about arms doesn’t mean we shouldn't place the use of that device in the context of the implementation. After reading a number of your comments, you seem to undermine your credibility with disconnected verbosity...
Tonearm Suggestions For Technics Sp15 Under 5k @dover Excellent. IMO, there are a LOT of table / arm combos for less than $5000 NEW, much less on the used market. @chakster Your suggestions are performance / quality mismatches. On that particular table, a better Jelco arm would be most satisfa... |
