Dark Horse DAC
I've read good things about the RME DAC. I think all the flexibility is interesting and enjoyable to some and to others it might be seen as unnecessary complexity. For myself I like to make the best choice I can afford and then keep it simple from...
Dark Horse DAC
Maybe old news for some, but perhaps not so much for others. Also, the current version is a MKII. Can't comment on the direct to amp performance, but the 2.6V going to the preamp through the RCA connections is higher than any other DAC that I know...
Dark Horse DAC
Came close to buying the Gustard R 26 Discrete DAC. My hearing seems to be ultra-sensitive to brightness/glare and I didn't want to take the chance. Your Doge must sound amazing with the NOS tubes. I will probably try that at some point.  Let me...
what are your top "audio bargins" in your system history?
All the Dunlavy speakers through the years and most recently the Doge Dac 7 Mk II. This DAC is nowhere close to broken in but is already the best I've ever heard.
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
I have happily lost count...
Everything matter in the audio chain. Tests prove it!
I have used the Blu-ray version of Avatar as a reference disc to test the would-be improvements to the video side of our home theater. One of the scenes is when the helicopter is making a landing at a remote location. The grass is being blown and ...
Everything matter in the audio chain. Tests prove it!
If you have a high-end projector in your stereo/video room, try an audiophile power cable. I recently experimented with a SOTA power cable from Audio Magic replacing the stock cable and the improvement in picture quality was dramatic. I guess ever...
Shave your CDs
Don't knock it until you've given it a fair chance👆
OK...here's another tweak that really works
@ holmz We may have to agree to disagree on some points. I know there is always a psychological element at work, but if you have been around a lot of live acoustic music, played an acoustic instrument or been in the hobby for an extended period o...
OK...here's another tweak that really works
There are those who can not accept a product unless it makes perfect technical sense. I respect that, but experientially if it works, then why not enjoy the ride instead letting the lack of logic be a barrier. I personally like to know how a thing...
OK...here's another tweak that really works
Thanks guys. I probably should have said that I use the Ayre Disc regularly and that what I'm experiencing with the Mathew Bond Disc is a different kind of improvement.  Also, even though I still play CDs, I'm more focused now on streaming using ...
Class D Amplification Announcement
Jeff Rowland perfected Class D years ago. Amplification is just a technology, not bad or good. It's what you do with it that counts.
For those of you who had spent over hundred thousand dollars for your sound system.
No regrets. I am thankful for having the resources to fuel my enjoyment of the hobby and an understanding wife that has made it possible to make it fun not only for us, but for our children (who are now adults) as well.
Which pair of speakers changed your Hifi life?
Magnaplanar 1C(s) were my first really serious set of speakers. Iterations later it was the Infinity RS-1B(s) and finally the Dunlavy speaker line. I am doubtful that I will ever replace what I have now, given that I am more than 'satisfied' with ...
Supra Cat 8 Ethernet cable
The thing that I'm continually experiencing is that no matter if it's audio or video, it all makes a difference.
