Difference Decca / London records
For a general overview, these links are interesting.Decca London LabelographyArthur Salvatore's take As you know, we adjust SRA (not VTA) for nearly every LP we spin. That includes, but is not limited to, Decca/London releases of different weights...
In-the-Grove lp cleaner
My complaint with this product is that it left a residue on the LP I tested it with. Ditto my experience with the similar (looking) Nagaoka record cleaning roller, especially when the roller is new.Such rollers are also ineffective for true record...
TriPlanar Tips
I'm pretty sure it would be easy to DIY a 12" arm into a 9" one... two cuts, spot of glue, done!
Tonearm clips too big, suggestions?
Hesson11 nailed it... or rather, toothpicked it. I use a ROUND, WOOD toothpick. Round is the shape you want. Unlike plastic, wood compresses a little under pressure - which gives you fine control of just how much reshaping you apply to the clip.
TriPlanar Tips
@Rottenclam, glad you got it sorted! Happy 2013!@Jfrech, Does the knob at the top of the tower easily rotate when the grub screw is snugged down? Mine does....just wondering if something is loose, broken or working as designed....Mine does too. I...
TriPlanar Tips
Original thread starter here. I've owned my TriPlanar VII since 2004 and agree with Lewm. Once snugged down properly my VTA tower never rotates. Nor does spindle-to-pivot distance change when I loosen and re-tighten the set screw on the VTA tower....
VPI HW-17 - Questions and Expectations
First, your expectations are not unrealistic... even for a Dolt! I have 3,000+ LP's and the vast majority have only a handful of clicks or pops. Most have virtually none. That said, my cleaning regimen is more complex, slow and costly than what yo...
Left channel fading in and out
Actusreus, You said you "switched the speakers". Did you literally move the L and R speakers across the room or did you swap L and R speaker cables at the amp outputs? Makes a big difference in the interpretation of your results.
Some Rega love.
How dare you admit to enjoying your system and music on this forum. That's not what it's here for, surely. I'm surprised the moderators haven't deleted this thread.Just funnin'! It's great to see someone so unabashedly happy with their system... m...
Tracking down cause of distortion on vinyl
A dirty stylus can sound a lot like you described. Before you spend significant money on a fix which might be only guesswork, try properly cleaning your stylus. The key word in the previous sentence was, "properly". I've saved a dozen "worn out" o...
MC cart, can I use MM phono preamp?
Opaceo, Your supposition is correct. If you compare several manufacturers' recommended phono input impedance settings for their LOMC's, you'll notice two things:- recommended values are all over the map (ranging from 10 ohms up to 47k)- recommende...
Strobe question
I use a cheap GE light stick, an under-counter flourescent fixture that's small enough to hand-hold. Cost me $10 (at most) from Home Depot.I emphasize cheap because, as others have noted, the light must flicker with the mains frequency (60 Hz in t...
Twisting wire on VPI for anti skate?
Thanks for clarifying, Captain w. I'm not much familiar with VPI arms and wasn't aware that the A/S device *could* affect azimuth. Given that unexpected "feature", checking crosstalk seems like a prudent step.
Twisting wire on VPI for anti skate?
1. Anti-skating does not affect crosstalk. Checking crosstalk because you adjusted A/S is like checking the oil because you adjusted tire pressure. ;)2. The HFN&RR test record makes a handy dust cover for the platter when the TT's not in use. ...
Twisting wire on VPI for anti skate?
With no anti skating, all was well except one album that skipped on the first track. A/S is intended to balance stylus pressures against the opposing groovewalls during play, not to prevent the stylus from racing down the angled slope of most lead...
