Replacing my AVP
You should look at the Classe SSP-800. It was build for sound quality rather than features. One thing it does not have compared to most other brands is automated room correction. It has filters than can be applied to each channel, but it is a manu...
Building HT, 2 channel audio guy needs help
No direct experience with the MET-1. I looked at it when it came out, but it had some limitations that made me pass. I went with a hybrid solution with a high quality tube preamp and SS AVR.It only has analog inputs, which means it does not do thi...
Building HT, 2 channel audio guy needs help
Audiooracle - please, stop the insults. I discussed HT bypass and gave him an alternative using his existing pre-amp. I also pointed out that the SS pre-amp or receiver probably may not be an acceptable alternative to a tube pre. Your suggestion i...
Building HT, 2 channel audio guy needs help
My advice would be to keep them PV5 until you try a SS receiver or pre-amp/processor. If you keep the 2200 that will help keep the tube sound.I would also consider NAD (like the 757, 775 or 787). It does not have the bells and whistles of the Asia...
Computer audio, I am not convinced yet ......
Bifwynne - the Sony product discussed is basically a CD/SACD player that uses computer files rather than disks. It works with standard CD computer files (16bit/44.1 KHz) as well as higher rez files like 24 bit/96 KH, 24/192KHz like DVD audio used....
Building HT, 2 channel audio guy needs help
I doubt you will easily find a 5.1 receiver that you would like as well as your PV5, especially given that you like tube equipment. You could keep your PV5 and simply add a 5 channel 5.1 receiver or pre-amp, although it is a little inconvenient. A ...
How do I do it?
If I understand your situation, I think it is a little more complicated than you think. Sounds like your PC has a digital output and the output of a HT receiver will be analog. So, you are trying to connect a digital connection to a DAC/pre-amp an...
Affordable integrated amps with HT bypass?
I am one of the Naim groupies. I use a Nait 5-i2 with Totem Sttaf speakers in a secondary system and really like the sound. I think it is especially good at low levels, which is not true of all systems. I have never heard it with B&W speakers....
Affordable integrated amps with HT bypass?
You can mimic HT bypass by simply plugging the pre-amp outs of the receiver into an analog input on the Rotel integrated. Set the volume control to the appropriate level so its output is balanced with the center and surrounds using a standard setu...
Do I need to re-rip?
Some people report hearing a difference depending on format and even on ripping software. They report that a WAV file ripped with dBpoweramp sounds different than a WAV file converted from Apple Lossless (for example), even if the files are the sa...
5.1 under 4k?
Bo1972 - you sound like a dealer. If that is so, you should identify yourself as a dealer and reference your company. That is pretty standard on Audiogon. Many people in the business post here, but you should identify that.
5.1 under 4k?
I like the Paradigm Monitor subs at $600 to $800. Front firing, which I personally like, especially for a carpeted room. Surprising sound in a small package.
Do I need to re-rip?
I would suggest re-ripping some CDs that you know well and compare them to files that are converted. If you cannot tell any difference, then re-ripping may not be necessary. There is a free version of dBpoweramp. It will find the tags, but you have ...
Your choice for budget analog to digital converter
Another option I have considered is the Korg MR 2. It is a portable recorder than can be used for mics and line level inputs. It records to a SD card in either wav, flac, AIFF and DSD (SACD) format. The wav can be edited with Korg software (AudioG...
Your choice for budget analog to digital converter
You might want to call Grado to try to figure out the output range, since both your cartridge and your electronics come from them. Also, how is the output of the phono preamp compared to a CD player, if you have one. If it is pretty comparable you...
