Will a Proceed AMP handle LPCM input?
Do you really need an HDMI swithch? I believe many cable boxes and Blu Ray players will send audio/video out of the HDMI and audio out the S/PDIF at the same time. Just something to check.

The same observation can be made about Dolby Digital. Dolby Digital on DVDs is typically 384 Kbps. However, the core DD on Blu Ray is 640 Kbps, the maximum for the format. I can hear the difference. Dolby True HD is noticeably better than 384Kbps,...
Purchasing and setting up a home music system
Gz3827 - Only the 105 has aysnc USB. I am not sure I would go for the 105 over the 103 just for the async USB. The NAD DACs are pretty good. I might start using the NAD DACs, rather than the more expensive 105. If he wants to use a PC with JRiver ...
Purchasing and setting up a home music system
Sounds like this system is for both music and video. It seems like you are in the UK and, unfortunately, I am not up to date on prices there. But, here are some thoughts.First, I would think twice about the 5 CD changer. Although they are convenie...
Today's New York Times
Wolf - if you have hair you are ahead of me. Congrats.I think Goodwin's clientele is a combination of Wellesley types, people with trust funds and people with money from around the world. They do not want to be in the entry level, lower mid range ...
Today's New York Times
Wolf_garcia - Goodwin's deals with a select group of clients. If they send out emails to everyone who signed up those Magico and Boulder demos would be overrun with people, most of them not interesting in actually buying. If you do business with t...
The title is:"There's No Such Thing As Digital..."
After seeing this post, I went back and re-read the article. My conclusion is the same as when I first read it - these are some interesting topics to discuss, but they reach no conclusions and they have no real recommendations on how to turn their...
Will a Proceed AMP handle LPCM input?
Let me try to summarize this. The OP may already have figured this out, but here goes. The AVP and AVP2 were state of the art multichannel digital preamps when DVD was the standard source. If you can feed them an audio signal like the DVD signal, t...
Will a Proceed AMP handle LPCM input?
Jrenman - yes, the Pro Logic and Pro logic II decoders on the AVP and AVP2 decode Dolby Digital AC3. AC3 was used with DVDs in the mid 1990s. The AVP came out in 1998 and the ACP2 in 2002 and used the digital formats of the time, DTS and Dolby Dig...
Will a Proceed AMP handle LPCM input?
I think you need to look a little further. Some of this depends on whether you have a AVP or an AVP2. S/PDIF or optical can carry 5.1 Dolby Pro Logic and DTS formats, although not the new lossless formats introduce with Blu Ray (DD HD or DTS-MA). ...
Use stereo amp and speakers with surround receiver
An alternative approach to setting the volume level on the Rogue is to use the test tone from the av receiver and measure the output from each speaker with a Radio Shack dB meter. Set the adjustments on the receiver so each speakers is the same le...
Does this speaker exist?
Totem - anything form Arro up to the Forest are <40" and meet your criteria. It is amazing what this line can produce from such a small box.
NAD M2 with Sonus Faber Cremona Ms
So guys, I stand corrected. Both the M2 and the 390DD use Class D switching technology. The NAD M2 descriptions all contain a comment of combining Class A and AB noise levels with digital technology. The Class A/AB line refers only to the noise le...
NAD M2 with Sonus Faber Cremona Ms
809nola - Glad you like your M2. I do not believe the M2 uses Class D amplification. At least according to what I read on the NAD website the M2 uses traditional Class A and Class AB technology, not Class D.It really looks to me like the 390DD use...
NAD M2 with Sonus Faber Cremona Ms
Richards - glad the M2 works for you. I believe the M2 uses Mosfets and the 390DD use a digital switching technology for amplification. It is a little hard to nail down the 390DD amplification technology from the NAD website. But they fact that th...
