Buying top brands's older CD players: Pros& Con The cd-1 is no longer supported by ARC, just like the CD-2. The pickups are no longer available, so if it breaks (and break it will) you will end up with an expensive paperweight. If anything, look for ARC CD-3 or later - those are based on the cd...
Magico v2 with mcintosh 601 Magicos in general are hard to drive and shine with high power amps, but v2s are probably the least powerhungry of the lot. I see no reason why they should't work together.
dCS to launch a reference USB to SPDIF converter The standard allows to pack a pure DSD data in a SPDIF encoded signal, so sending it from the SPDIF converter to the DAC is possible as well. The new standard is there and is free to anyone interested. AFAIK several manufacturers already signed in...
dCS to launch a reference USB to SPDIF converter I will say the clock is a big deal, are you still running the dac alone?Yes, I knew the update of some sort is comming, so decided to wait till the dust setles down. I'm glad I did.My final setup will be a music server with USB audio out, Scarlatt...
Zeta Zero Systems opinion Those are very interesting, high tech speakers. They use a nanotubes technology (same as Magico in the Q series) on their ribbons, which gives them very broad frequency response and very high power handling.
dCS to launch a reference USB to SPDIF converter Jfrech - yes. This is the same clock with an extra USB module added inside. You can upgrade yours to the full U-Clock status, but that will probably require the clock to be sent to dCS factory for upgrade - the job requires fitting the new back pa...
suggestions for updating via DAC..... IMO the two DACs to beat in the sub $2000 category are Metrum Octave and Teddy Pardo DACs. The first one is more transparent and direct sounding, the other one is more smooth and analog. Do a google search on both.
What happened to Krell The new Krell S300i integrated is rather good, even though their entry line is made in china now. It is much better than the kav300i and kav400xi models it replaced.
Metrum Octave Mod and cable suggestion Yes, I did. I think it made a small but noticable difference in my system. At $10, it is a no brainer.
What to look for in a transport Why not spend a bit more and get a quality, dedicated transport ? Stello CDT is $795, but you may try getting one used.
Muse Audio contact? You may try contacting him via the HRT web page.
Are Burmester Amps a good match with Aesthetix Pre 911 mk3 has very unussual electrical characteristics - very high gain (34db) and extremely low input impedance (2k balanced) - so if the 956 is similar in that regard, then it will not be optimal. A friend of mine was loosing tubes in his vtl all ...
Battery backup PurePower units are your answer.
Any better DAC then dCS Scarlatti? Did the shootout ever took place ?
Experience with Metrum Octave DAC Bugredmachine - Martin Colloms from hifi critic tested Metrum with his vintage Meridian transport, and it still sounded very good.It is not that it will sound 'bad' or any worse than other DACs in this price range when using with ordinary transpor... |
