What next?
The question I'm left with, is there something that needs improving or are you just looking to spend money?  Perhaps supporting musical education or other charitable work to support culture is a better spend for you right now. I mean, yes, you ca...
Dac to remove Digital Glare/ edge
What you need isn't a new DAC, but tone controls.. :) It sounds like you have a specific idea of the problem. May I suggest a miniDSP such as the nano? It can apply correction in the digital domain, but requires a PC for the user interface. Best,E...
What next?
So it seems you have most things dealt with. :) I would do room acoustics next, followed by speaker matching.  Best,Erik
Thoughts on replacing caps in 30 year old speakers
Hey @fd60 Take your questions to DIYAudio in the multi-way forum. Take a picture of the driver, if it's marked as a SS driver the part number will be on it, otherwise maybe contact Thiel and ask what they were using. you'll find lots of speaker bu...
What next?
Hi Ricred, as some one who has a mix of ring radiator and AMT based speakers in his HT I may be in a similar position. Based on my experience (some of it in motion picture auditorium sound) I’d say that matching your speakers isn’t your biggest ne...
New Transformer on the Pole
The newer transformers may have a lower inherent resistance/impedance. I don't know about old vs. new pole mounted, but for sure, pad mounted transformers tend to have much lower impedance, so much that the recommended AIR for service breakers may...
Dark Side of the Moon - Is MFSL really all that?
The CD is pretty low volume, but the effects of the original are all missing too. Kind of unmistakable if you switch back and forth.
Marantz SA 8005 break in
What are you running the SACD player with in terms of pre, amp and speakers? Also, are you in an apartment? They tend to have the worst power issues. :) Best,Erik
Any options for low power class A amps?
Class A is hard to find "small". How about the Parasound Zamp? It gets very good buzz, and quite small.  Otherwise, not sure if you need it small in 3D or just 2D (i.e. small footprint) you could probably find some small SET amps.
Dark Side of the Moon - Is MFSL really all that?
Thanks everyone, I thought MFSL CDs were top notch, but man, what a let down this particular one was, especially given how many rave about it. I just learned something! :)
High end UPS for Expensive audio eequipments
600V is what I would consider an over-voltage, not a surge. A surge can be kilovolts, though in some cases very low current potential. However that is all it takes to fry silicon. These same circuits that you are touting as being good surge protec...
Different PCs gives me very different results
If you can, please try JRiver first.  Truth is I loathe almost all music software. Somehow it always seems it was designed for people besides me. Of those, I hate JRiver the most, and can tolerate MediaMonkey. I'm very much alone in this though, b...
'outboard' high end dac's
Hi !So you are in luck. :)  The 105 (but not the 103) has USB 2.0 outputs! :) That means you can use any USB 2.0 DAC that is described as "driverless" for Linux or OSX.  Of course, you can also use the regular SPDIF outputs as well, but most DAC's...
High end UPS for Expensive audio eequipments
@cleeds I think @westom is talking about how traditional surge protection works, which is to short over-voltages to ground.I should note, just for being complete, that the series-mode protection is (by design) a low-pass filter so it works great o...
High end UPS for Expensive audio eequipments
@westom Please describe which power supply design you are talking about? I haven’t done an exhaustive study, but after examining say, two dozen devices, including DAC’s, mostly amplifiers and preamps, headphone amps, etc., I have yet to see a sing...
