Hegel H160 competitors
The Hegel H160 is probably going to be very tough to beat at that price point. However, if you can squeeze a little more out of the budget, the H360 is a very nice step up. Disclosure: we are a Canadian Hegel dealer
Integrated/DAC Suggestions
albireo13, the latest Hegel H80 now has preamp out. The earlier ones didn't.
Is HDtracks better than Tidal? Do I need to do something with settings?
In my opinion, this is because the Bluesound Node 2 is an excellent sounding piece for streaming Tidal. We're a relatively new Bluesound dealer and I've been greatly impressed by the sound of the Node 2 feeding a digital signal to a good quality D...
Hegel HD30 vs Exogal Comet Plus
I'm not sure about the Exogal Comet Plus as a preamp, but the SoundStage! review of the Hegel HD30 did specifically try it as a preamp and found that it was better as a DAC/preamp than running it through his $9,500 USD Simaudio Moon Evolution 740P...
New Bel Canto REF600M using NCORE
We have a demo pair in now and are just starting to put some hours on them, but already, these are quite a step up from their previous generation of amplifiers. They're detailed yet incredibly smooth with plenty of power, control and authority on ...
opinions on best neutral sounding amp with DAC under $4K
When I first saw your post title, the piece that immediately came to mind was the Hegel H160. Since you're already thinking about that one, you're on the right track. An excellent integrated with a pile of awards. Disclosure: we are a Hegel dealer
Tube integrated with real bass. Does it exist?
I think the PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP (high-powered) would do the trick for you. You can use EL34, KT88, KT120 and KT150 tubes and run it into ultra-linear mode or triode. It will do 96W X 2 into 8 ohms running ultra-linear with KT150 tubes.
Songs that trigger you to switch the station or...
Anything by Rod Stewart or Michael Bolton.
OPPO 103 VE 105.....
Completely agree with Freemand. For me, I'll take a 103D with a good DAC. The 105D is pretty decent on its own, but it won't hold up to a 103D with a good DAC.
Is Rotel RMB-1075 a good match for B&W N804
Home theatre receivers, in general, tend to perform very poorly as preamps. The Yamaha would definitely be a major problem for sure.
What is you TIDAL setup?
Very simple setup for me. Ethernet cable from my network to a Hegel H160 integrated amp and Apple Airplay from an iPod Touch with the TIDAL app. Works beautifully. Had been using a Hegel H300 previously, but I really like having the Ethernet input...
Rel sub cable options
Daveyf, I was comparing the GutWire cable versus the upgraded REL Bassline Blue which comes with spades. The REL cable that is included with REL subs provides bare wire on the amp end.
Rel sub cable options
That's true Daveyf, you can definitely cut down the length on the REL cable and that would work very well, but you'd lose the factory terminated spades. You'd just have to re-terminate with the connectors of your choice or go bare wire.
Rel sub cable options
GutWire in Canada has just finished creating the GutWire Congruence REL subwoofer cable. It isn't on the web anywhere yet, but will go up to our site soon. I've uploaded a picture here:http://tinypic.com/r/w89t9w/8It will be $450 CAD for a 8ft cab...
Preachtree Nova220se compared to Devialet
I'll agree with your dealer with the suggestion of the Hegel H300. The Hegel will drive any of those speakers easily. You can get yourself an Oppo BDP-103D as a source and run the s/pdif coaxial digital out to one of the coaxial digital inputs of ...
