What were your impressions listening to them?
Cheap Audio Cables
That is really valuable work for those getting started. When you don’t have big bucks to spend someone doing the tedious work of comparing is really useful... someone can build on your work. What were the high end ones you tried and returned?
A phenomenal new CD transport-Pro-Ject CD Box RS2 transport
There are only a few cd transport manufactures. The high end companies buy those and shield, isolate from vibration and my modify them. I have hear Audio Research just discontinued their manufacture of REF CD9se because the manufacturer stopped ma...
Older vs. newer REL subs
My rule of thumb is ten years makes for a significant improvement in sound from a line or company or a technology (high-end stuff).
What’s a mistake you made by being impulsive?
Add Monster To the marketing hype companies like Bose has been. (Although Bose finally came up with a nice sounding headphones... although not remotely accurate).
phase linear 500 watt per chanell amp
I lived with one of those. It was amazing... ground breaking for 1978 (?)... but unrefined and noisy by today’s standards. it’s been a long time, but I doubt it sounds better now. .For most of my time as an audiophile Carver was out there doing wi...
Older vs. newer REL subs
No experience on mismatching of subs... but you will like two... two do more than just add bass, they will extended the soundstage.
What’s a mistake you made by being impulsive?
@stereo5 “You are going to laugh, but I bought the new JBL L100 Classics because of the orange grills. ”I completely get it. When JBL got mentioned before you somewhere... I looked up JBL speakers and immediately was drawn to the orange grills. I ...
Where are the young audiophiles?
Elitist: “a person having, thought to have, or professing superior intellect or talent, power, wealth, or membership in the upper echelons of society.”Generally, audiophilia is a solitary pursuit, we tend to be loners. Certainly I can’t imagine an...
Where are the young audiophiles?
There are good dealers and bad dealers, like in any market. I have found and remained close to those that have an actual passion for high end audio. Typically I will interview the first person that I meet in a new store, access his knowledge and b...
Where are the young audiophiles?
I think most shops want their systems to pop... have the sound stick out. Certain jazz does that.. I mean can you really blame them for wanting high end systems to sound the best they can? Everyone interested, then turns to the music they like. Be...
What’s a mistake you made by being impulsive?
I am impulsive by nature, but the high cost of and desire to alway purchase far above what I can afford has pushed me to research the living daylights out of every purchase... so can’t say I have had a significant bad one.
what system musicians prefer? Do they care?
Most musicians don’t care. There are a few notable exceptions. But typically creating music is about stringing notes together, melodies... the structure... the performance. If they hear that clearly that is enough. They spend time in studios... a ...
Does length matter ?
Belden is a professional audio recording company. That is a different market. I’m not saying their is anything wrong with there products. I did some research on a competitor of theirs and concluded that dollar for dollar they were in line with hig...
Your tube preamp and ss amp thread
I have run a Audio Research tube preamp with a Pass X350 for over ten years. An excellent combination. I had stayed away from tube amps because of the reliability ‘ biasing need. Then a couple years ago the Audio Research rep came through with the...
