My First DIY Power Cable
BTW their is a direction on the cable, you have to look at it under a 100-1000x. You'll see how it was pushed through the extrusion dies. That is the single best thing you can do to build your cable. Get the direction right, don't touch the expos...
Balanced versus single ended
They both do! šŸ˜ There is not a lot of reason to trade up in cable with the electronics that conform. It is possible to make a cable that does not conform, or that flips the phase, but realistically the cables should all conform. So it looks l...
Vintage versus New
Does today's technology make these vintage speakers obsolete? What technology? You will find that there were people with technical acumen back in the day, and people now with it. You will not find cheap speakers today that have all problems ad...
Balanced versus single ended
I thought this newsletter below was perfect for this post but no mention of the AES48 standard. Mike ā€¦ @ditusa does cable create the conformance to the AES48 standard? orā€¦ the electronics that it plugs into?
XLR Female to RCA Plug Adapter
If it was a long way from the DAC to the pre, then XLR and a transform would be best. But if it has RCAs, then just chuck those on. If there are no hums, then lower nothing by 10dB is still nothing.
XLR Female to RCA Plug Adapter
I would get a Jensen Transformer to do the conversion.Ā  That does look like it also lowers the voltage. (the Nuetrik is a 200:200 transformer.) So it should be lower noise as the RCA is attenuated, and the XLR can be driven harder. So $300 ve...
XLR Female to RCA Plug Adapter
I have been considering these. https://www.neutrik.com/en/product/na2f-d0b-tx Maybe @atmasphereĀ can advise?
Best power cord for a preamp?
Top-tier power cordsĀ are the best way to tweak a state-of-the-art system for maximum realism and definition. After tube rolling, cable selection and matching, suspension tuning, final equipment selections, speaker adjustments, and room acoustics,...
What Does This Mean: Amplification: 2 x 400 watt per loudspeaker?
On their siteā€¦ Amplification:Ā A1 or A2 Amplifier, 2 x 400 watt per loudspeaker Amplification channels:Ā 2 per loudspeaker Crossover:Ā Woofer/Midrange: Digital crossover stored in processor, 200 Hz. Midrange/Tweeter: Passive crossover, 2200Hz Conne...
How far is your SUT from your Phono Pre/Preamp?
It's pretty well documented that owners have had much better luck with outboard SUTs than the internal Jensens with the Lamm. Lamm has no provision for loading changes and maybe that's the cause. In my case, the SUT is designed for my DL103 varia...
Ideas for an amplifier?
Is it normal for Vandys to say 2ce on the box but the actual speaker name plate to just say ā€œModel 2ā€ I donā€™t mean the speakers say that, only it is on the badge. We all know speakers canā€™t talk Mine talkā€¦Ā šŸ˜Ž Was the ā€œeā€™ for elliptical? If s...
Albums you do not get...a plea for help and understanding
The biggest gateway for me was Michael Franks. I was mid twenties staying in a cabin on Lake Tahoe doing research (I was a geologist). I went to this tucked away high end cool restaurants hidden in an old growth forest. One of his albums was play...
Active or passive power conditioner?
^That is honest.^ I took the approach of front end upgrade, but also to be honest, the gear does have an outboard power supply that supplies DC. Most of the conditioners seem to fix problems that exist rarely, or exist in gear that was not desig...
Balanced versus single ended
I remember reading a post a couple years ago, about a guy that had atmasphere equipment and he said he could hear a difference in cables. People also hear voices that are not there. But can they tell whether a cable is there without looking? Ā ...
