Why does my system sound so shrill and distorted?
I think I would look at cartridge set up first. If you know it is spot-on, then consider other areas, as already advised. What method do you use to achieve overhang and alignment?Best of luck,Dan
Any good Audio Stores in San Diego
Blackbird Audio, owned by Dan Musquiz, is one of the most caring dealers I've encountered in forty years.
Redmond, WA analog only - any interest?
I'm on Whidbey, a ways away, but analog is a prominent part of my system. Always ready to share, but it's a fair distance for either of us.Regards,Dan
RIP: Doc Watson
I haved loved "Tennesse Stud", from 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken', ever since that seminal album from the seventies. Great musician, Doc will be sorely missed. Sad day indeed.
Would a Dynavector XX2 MkII be good upgrade?
Teleshack, I agree about the cantilever protector Dynavector supplies with the XX2. I have found, though, the simple use of masking tape, judiciously applied, keeps the flimsy protector in place. No problems or worries that way. By the way, Ian, I...
Cartridge Recommendations
I second the SUT suggestion. The Zu Denon 103R I have is crazy good. I say keep the Zu 103. By the way, I also have a Dynavector XX2MKII (a $1900 cartridge), and the 103R ate it for lunch.
Cable with Neutrik Speakon connector
Signal Cable is advertising REL cable with Speakon connector for $90. Look up REL in search function.
Joseph Audio Pulsars
While I haven't heard the Pulsars, I did hear Joseph Audio speakers at RMAF, and really enjoyed them. I don't know if you've heard them, but I was very impressed with what I heard. If you haven't already, give them a listen. Regards,Dan
Linn Basik LVX to ?? for XX2 MkII
Hi, having had for several years, an XX2MKII, first on a Scout Signature, and now on a restored Garrard 401 and Dynavector 501 tonearm, and also having had a Dynavector P-75, I suspect you'll get more bang for your buck by upgrading your phono sta...
I think my speakers are killing my amps.
Hi Chad,I may be mistaken, memory isn't what it used to be, but if the 4004 is anything like my 3002, I seem to remember there were two internal fuses, one for each channel. Try lifting the lid, and check for them. Like I said, I may be mistaken, ...
Tonearm Ideas for Garrard 301 Rebuild
Hi, I am just in the finishing stages of my 401 rebuild. I had my plinth built for me by the maker of my custom speaker enclosures. It is the first plinth built by them, and although it's nice, Chris Harban of Woodsong does an incredible job on hi...
C'mon name that amp ...please?
Although you have been warned away from tubes, what has finally done it for me is a VAC PA 35.35 push-pull EL 34 amp. I purchased it here on A'gon, and have recently sent it back to the factory for an upgrade.Even before the upgrade, this 35Wpc am...
CD player to compete with my vinyl rig?
My last digital acquisition is a modded McIntosh MVP 871. Its playback stands on its own, as when listening to it, it makes me not care whether the format is digital or vinyl. It is that good. It was purchased here on Audiogon, modded, and then sh...
Am I crazy or In love? Tad R1 Vs. Rockport Altair
I don't think you're at all crazy. If I had a chance to get a half-price pair of CR-1's, and could come up with the money, I'd jump on them. I was able to hear them quite well at RMAF '07, and didn't want to leave the room. I haven't heard the Roc...
Oh, to be a high end dealer for a year.
My son makes his living selling automobiles. He is sales manager for two of the largest Audi dealers in the Pacific Northwest. His salary is largely based on comissiions. The last two years, he has made more in salary than he has ever made, with l...
