Setting tonearm angle?
I suppose I could be accused of stealing this thread, I hope you will indulge me.After our previous discussion, I went a bit further in trying to fine-tune overgang/alignment last night.I now know I have been remiss, in not optimizing overhang wit...
Esco cantilever/stylus mods for Zu Denon 103R
Marc,Thanks much for your answer to my question, it's really appreciated. My Zu Denon is a 103R (within 2% channel matching), is never out of rotation for very long. My Dyna XX2MKII is getting very long in the tooth, after about seven years of ste...
Upgrading cartridge used or new?
You will get responces from both sides, those that have had bad luck buying used, and those that have had the opposite experience. My only purchase of a used cartridge was of a Dynavector XX2MKII. The ad specified the cartridge as having only 10 ho...
Setting tonearm angle?
Raul, all,Regarding the status of my knowledge re cartridge set up, I have come a long way since re-intering the vinyl wars some 6-7 years ago. Much time and effort has been expended in expanding what I know about better set-up.That includes a DIY...
Setting tonearm angle?
I have an on-the-fly VTA adjuster on my Dynavector 501 arm (Pete Riggle), and I have several cartridges to adjust VTA on. They vary greatly in proper adjustment, from the Dynavector XX2MKII, two different Actex LPM, and Zu Denon 103R.Having the Ri...
Setting tonearm angle?
Yes, that is a sensible starting point. You might try lowering the arm a substantial amount, then raise it incrementally until it sounds best to your ear. It will sound bass prominent at first, as it is raised, bass and treble will come into balan...
Phono cables
I'm guessing, but I presume it's an RCA connector that has been damaged. Why not replace just the connector? It's not that hard, and it would save a bit of money.Happy New Year, regards,Dan
Tannoy Westminister Royal SE Pre-amp Preference?
Wylmars,First off, I congratulate you on your Westminister Royals. While I have never had the chance to hear the Royals, I have been using Tannoys since 1971. My first pair were 12" Monitor Golds, back in 1971, and most recently, HPD 315's (12" Du...
Vintage Tannoy Monitor Gold vs SF Cremona Auditor
Thank you Charles, I've been reading with interest your thread, especially concerning the improvements wrought by the Dueland Cast capacitors. Two for Tannoy, what do you think, Stan?Best regards,Dan
Vintage Tannoy Monitor Gold vs SF Cremona Auditor
I used 12" Tannoy MG's from 1971 to 1988. Then on to B&W and Dynaudio (Contour 5.4). Several years ago, I felt the need to return to Tannoy.I purchased HPD 315 (ca 1975) drivers on Ebay UK, and had custom 150 liter bass-reflex enclosures made ...
Green and Clapton
Don't forget "Then Play On"; it's my all time favorite. Saw the old Fleetwood Mac along with Quicksilver Messenger Service, next night, Janice, BB & THC, Avalon Ballroom, summer of '69. I can't believe how many years ago that was. Kids in thei...
CJ Equipment - Speaker Recommendations
Hello RB,The footprint of my custom Tannoys are 16"W X 20"D X 48"H.They work in my room with no acoustic treatment at all, with a deep and wall-to-wall soundstage, with the speakers seeming to disappear. Imaging is extremely good as well. You can s...
CJ Equipment - Speaker Recommendations
I do believe an upward direction in the Tannoy line would prove to be satisfying, but I think you may have to go farther up than the Kinsingtons to match the quality of your other gear.I have Tannoys, but they are custom built, using HPD 315 drive...
Audible Illusion 3A humming pop noise one channel
Sounds to me like your attenuator/volume pot may be dirty. If it can be easily accessed, some electrical cleaner/lubricant may be all it needs. Something like Caig's Pro Gold.I'm sure there are many others that members have as favorites, but the C...
