Bob Carver C-500 worth restoring and/or upgrading?? Get a variac and plug the amp into it and turn on both with the variac set at zero. Slowly turn up the variac over a 12/24 hour period until 120 volts are reached. This will let the caps reform without shocking them with a sudden turn on. Next hoo...
I am getting some new tubes for my amp, and I want to do a 24-hour burn in. How? Wire doesn't need "break-in" either!
I am getting some new tubes for my amp, and I want to do a 24-hour burn in. How? Only mechanical things need a "break-in" period! Tubes and transistors - no! Tubes will of course suffer from "aging" as cathode emissions decline with use - noise increases!
Is it safe to use a higher amperage rating fuse? Don't do it! Why do otherwise intelligent people fall for this fuser bs! The sound of an electronic component starts with what comes out of the power supply! Not with anything before it!
If you have ever owned a B&O turntable, was it any good? Or was it trash? The cartridges are excellent MI types - just like Grado! In fact the Sound Smith cartridges are copies of B&O's! At expensive prices!
Anyone familiar with the Empire brand of cartridges? Stylast costs about $23 - but a bottle will last (no pun!) years!
Preservation I like and use both formats! Which sounds better? This has been a hotly debated topic since the arrival of consumer digital (the CD) in 1982. But the buying public has voted! The CD player became the most popular home entertainment device next to ...
Dedicated line question No piece of audio gear requires a dedicated line! Who told you such nonsense? A preamp, power amp, streamer, DAC ... don’t draw much current. They are not stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, dryers which suck up a lot of current!
Suggestions for TT upgrade A Hana EL mc cartridge + a SUT would be a big improvement! Much more details and dynamics from your LPs!
Total Budget System: Vintage Adcom w B&W 704’s & Sunfire Solataire 10 A large area rug on the floor!
By far, my most significant system upgrade! The positive and negative legs of a speaker cable should be spaced closely to minimize inductance. Otherwise it is poor engineering!
If you have ever owned a B&O turntable, was it any good? Or was it trash? I have one in my collection (8004?). It uses a B&O moving-iron cartridge - which Sound Smith has copied. Linear track with excellent SQ!
Cable from SUT to Phono Preamp Even better would be a pair of ICs 1/4 meter in length - 10 inches.
Cable from SUT to Phono Preamp Any pair of RCA cables will do so long as they are short in length - half a meter (19 inches) or less! This is to avoid high frequency roll-off! Here the shorter the better applies! I have a pair of the Sony ST-10 mini SUTs that plug directly into...
RCA Interconnect. "...limitless quality, pricewise cables out there." L0L! Why won't anybody making these subjective claims consent to a blind listening test? Afraid of the results? |
