Newbie Can't Decide Which Tube Amp
jss49,  The Carver Crimson 275 compares very favorably with the Primaluna Dialogue HP Integrated.  Folks sometimes don't like conclusions that end with, "they are both very good amps", but it's true here. The Carver is smooth, strong, warm and beh...
Newbie Can't Decide Which Tube Amp
If you have a line OP on a Carver Crimson 275 for ~$2K, you should give it a go.  I have heard it and have it.  I'm running it in comparison to two other awesome amps, an Elekit 300B and a Primaluna Dialogue HP Integrated.  The Carver Crimson 275 ...
The anachronistic CD Transport? And do I really need one.
The Audiolab arrived today.  Very nice unit.  I saw their products at Axpona 2019--pre pandemic--and was impressed with the build, fit and finish, and sound.  The transport sounds great feeding my tube DAC.  Very simple and subtle design too!
FYI Chinook Owners -- Diode Failures and Repair Upgrade
Thanks audio2design.  I had to do a little research on the subject as I'm only a hobbyist.  You summed up the points that took me much reading to get to.  It also seems a Hexfred could sound better but not likely where switching needs are soft--he...

@chayro .  Thank you!  And many thanks to the tip on the Wireworld digital cables seller here.
Shootout-- Primaluna Dialog HP Integrated/Carver Crimson 275/Elekit 300B
Thanks motorway for your story!  I bet the Carver 275 mates well with the PL preamp! Each of these three amplifiers in my shootout are wonderful.  I hope folks know the point is just to have fun.  All of them are worthy of my long term listening r...

You are correct tablejockey!  I do have upgraded caps on the PL.

I broke down and bought the Audiolab because I wanted to avoid repairs with older units. I can fix and amp, but a cd transport? Maybe, maybe not.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ripping the cds is an option, but I'm not as fond of it.  These are special albums and I appreciate them and their physical media.  I suppose I could still hold the physical media in hand while playing a ripped file...

Thanks all!  I was unaware of the Cambridge and its quality--although Cambridge does make very good to great gear and doesn't get enough respect in my mind.  I like the Audiolab too.
Why so many angry audiophiles?
@mapman , I agree.  I'm not sure what it is.  I'm on other forums unrelated or less related to this one and folks are more open and excited just to have others with the same interests to "talk to/with"--i.e. guitar forums, diy audio forums, etc.  ...
V-Cap CuTF .22 on Gain Tubes-- Primaluna Dialogue HP Integrated
Erik, I the topic of modifying a Primaluna, I think it’s a superb idea. You can pick up some models inexpensively and they are built like tanks.   The company did a wonderful job of layout abs features. The caps are an area that they likely had to...
V-Cap CuTF .22 on Gain Tubes-- Primaluna Dialogue HP Integrated
I'm using MiFlex copper in a preamp project I'm working on.  I haven't heard them yet.  I'm taking a chance on them.
Better Amp for Cornwall IV's...
@OP,  I have the Cornwall IVs.  I agree with so much above.  They are very versatile--you could swap amps to your hearts content to change the sound.  How big is your room?  How loud do you like to listen? I do think you should try tubes or Class ...
V-Cap CuTF .22 on Gain Tubes-- Primaluna Dialogue HP Integrated
Erik,  the Audyn True Copper are great caps.  Things are opening up quickly.  I really like what I'm hearing.  The PL is smoother and clearer than before.  It's closer to my 300B, which actually uses a touch of negative feedback and some describe ...
