Give Bach a try
Oracle462:+1 for Vikingur Olafsson's albums. Great sound, too!
Jazz for someone who doesn't like jazz.
I suggest that you begin your jazz journey with some Dixieland.  In particular, try Evan Christopher, a clarinetist who plays updated (i.e., not the Preservation Hall style) New Orleans-style Dixieland.  His Clarinet Road Vol I:  The Road to New O...
Soundstage Confusion
Hi Millercarbon,The quotation is attributable to the British economist, John Maynard Keynes:  "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?”  Not to get philosophical on an audio site, but I think the quotation is the epitome of E...
Anyone have this kind of problem with their amp?
Thanks to everyone for their help!Stereo5, I'm going to try contacting Classe again.  Who knows, maybe I'll get a response this time. The local repair shop I went to is Audio Specialties here in Portland; the owner, Doug, is well-respected.  I don'...
Anyone have this kind of problem with their amp?
Thanks, noromance,Ever since I've owned it, I've had the amp on a wood shelf nowhere near a heat vent, with 3-4 inches of open space around the amp's top and sides.  The top (which has vents and which I've always kept clear) has always gotten warm...
Anyone have this kind of problem with their amp?
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply.Bsamooa, special thanks for your detailed questions and suggestions.  To respond briefly:  (1) there's no noise (e.g., boom or scratch) at sound cut out; (2) after sound cut out, no hum or hiss from ...
Sunday Morning sounds
It's still morning here in Portland, and a foggy, chilly one in my part of town.  Madeleine Peyroux is singing, and she sounds just fine.  Richard, thanks for sharing, and you-all enjoy the rest of your days.Jim
Favorite instrument through your favorite speakersi
Good thread!  Lately, I've been really enjoying the sound of clarinets through Harbeth M30's.  Anyone here also like Evan Christopher's recordings?
Karla Bonoff
We saw Karla in concert in Door County, Wisconsin last June, accompanied by Nina Gerber on guitar.  Great show, we had a wonderful time (really liked Sturgeon Bay and Door County, too).  If she's singing near you, it's well worth the time, effort,...
Linda Ronstadt: The Sound Of My Voice
I'll join the chorus in praising the documentary, which is informative, moving, and tells a story very much worth hearing.Linda had so many great songs and performances over the years.  It's hard to pick out a favorite, but "Long, Long Time" is th...
Pairing NAD Masters & Harbeth [poss. SHL5+ or 40.2]
Erik asks some good questions, but only you can answer the question of whether you think Harbeth speakers will work with your NAD equipment.  If you're buying new, perhaps you could work with your dealer for a home demo or for you to bring your NA...
R.I.P: Rest In Peace Roy Johnson, Green Mountain Audio's Genius
I met Roy once at his place of business.  He was friendly, gracious, and helpful.  I was sorry to hear of his passing, and I'm also sorry to hear that he left unfinished business and that he may not have left any plan or mechanism for finishing th...
Help !
Schubert,As you've probably figured out, it looks as though I may have misspoken when I suggested you could rip your CDs and then donate or sell the CDs.  Certainly some read the copyright law as prohibiting that, although I don't know that any co...
Help !
Hi Schubert,Let me try to supplement glennewdick's good advice.  I use a 500 gb portable hard drive plugged into my computer as my NAS.  It easily holds my 750 CDs that I ripped to FLAC files, but you should research the appropriate size of the NA...
Recommended solid state amp for user with tinnitus
Samster,Lots of good suggestions here.  I'd start with your Classe option "B" simply because you'll use what you already have.  If the audio results are not acceptable, then you could undo the modification to your system and try one or more of the...
