Prima Luna Vs Accupahse
OP, I suspect most respondents here are assuming you’re asking about a Primaluna tube amp, whereas you’re asking about their hybrid integrated which has an AB amp in it. As for build quality (which probably is better on the accuphase…), the PL gea...
Electronics for Harbeths -- $5-10K
OP, regarding the Benchmark, like everything it comes down to synergy and personal preferences.  Can the Benchmark compete with more expensive gear?  Absolutely.  But, it’s not pretty to look at if you want something that looks like Mac, Lux, or A...
Electronics for Harbeths -- $5-10K
My favorite with Harbeth was Benchmark preamp and amp.  I’ve had Luxman separates as well as the 590AXII, Primaluna tubes, a class D amp from Nord, and I preferred the Benchmark.
Help settle a streaming argument!
Which clock is being used, the one in the DAC or the streamer? And the quality matters. On USB input the DAC’s clock is used. On SPDIF or AES the streamer (or CD transport) clock is used. This alone can make a big difference in the sound between s...
T+A DAC 200 or WEISS 501
I’ve got the Weiss and the T+A predecessor to the DAC200, the DAC 8 DSD, side by side in my system. I don’t know how much changed between the two T+A DACs, and while they have very similar feature sets, you would have to think T+A changed or impro...
What’s the most underrated used Audio Research gear?
I agree with Roxy.  Although the 100.2 was probably not underrated (try to find anything bad said about it, it’s all raves…), for the price, especially used, it’s a fantastic amplifier.  ARC should do what other companies have been doing and come ...
Rel t9x or Rythmik F12G
I’ve had both and would go with Rythmik.  I’ve had many REL subs over the years and enjoyed all of them except the T9x.  I had a pair and just could not get them to sound good.  The Rythmik goes a lot lower also.  My experience with the T9s made m...
Preamp to Pair with NAD M23
I have an M23 as well, very impressed with it.  So much so that I ordered the M66 to go with it, which would be a logical pairing of course.  That said, I’ve tried two other preamps with it.  A Primaluna (excellent combo) and an SPL Elektor (not s...
Help and opinions needed on pre-amp situation
I would highly recommend trying a preamp in your chain to see if it makes a difference.  Buy a used Benchmark LA4, because it is relatively inexpensive and you can resell it very easily.  More importantly it is a known commodity - super transparen...
Does the Audio press ever excite you anymore?
Not excited, no.  After reading somewhere between 500-1000 reviews they all start to sound the same.  AI could probably write them now, they’re so similar.  Waste 200 words on the company history, throw in a ‘sublime’, an ‘aplomb’, and a ‘gobsmack...
Warranty repair wait times - serious industry problem??
I just sent a preamp and amp to Bryston - in warranty - and it took over 3 months.  They advised me it would take that long before I sent them in.
Moving up????
@robshaw Tyler Acoustics has been in business for at least over 20 years.  Back around 2000 I took a road trip to visit his workshop and over the years bought several pairs of his speakers.  He’s excellent to do business with, his cabinetry is fir...
KT-77 vs. KT-66
Thanks.  I thought I’d also add, after noting some of the comments about 6L6s, I have some NOS RCA blackplate 6L6GCs.  These sound like JJSS was describing above.  The KT66s are a lot more dynamic and not as warm in my system.
KT-77 vs. KT-66
I’ve been playing both these tubes this week.  I have primalunas, both tubes are from gold lion, new production.  In my system the differences are very easy to hear.  The 66s have more top end emphasis, and perhaps a bit more transparent, though t...
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend
@verdantaudio isn’t the Weiss Helios using one chip but with 8 channels? The 501 uses 2 mono chips. What would be interesting is if you could test the new 204 or 205, in general. It has an outboard power supply, presumably not an LPS. Some reviewe...
