???What's The LEAST Expensive "End Game"Amplifier You've Ever Heard??? For the money my Quicksilver Audio Mini Mite tube monoblocks. I’ve had mine for 18 years and for $998 US dollars (in 2006 dollars), they remain the best dollar to performance value I have spent in this hobby. As Sam Tellig wrote in his 2001 review...
DarTzeel’s new direction IMHO, the super hi-end of audio has always catered to a very small group of wealthy audio enthusiasts who have the financial wherewithal to purchase whatever they want. Mostly they want to be able to purchase limited production products that will ...
CD Player: Vintage or modern ones? It depends on the quality of the CD player. The old Naim CDi that I inherited from my late Dad (RIP Dad 💔) is built like a tank and still sounds great over 30 years after it was manufactured. Of course the CDi would cost over $9000 today factoring...
The Allure of Vintage Audio Gear I've been in this hobby for more than fifty years and have owned quite a bit of Hi-Fi gear; both solid state and tube. Solid state gear has come along way from the late 1960's when its sound was one dimensional and flat. Gone was the bloom of t...
Anyone remember the days before bells and whistles! Still have a basic British system that sounds great decades after it was contemporary. Naim CDi, Naim Nait 2 and Linn Kan I's. 👍
I Sold my CD Player!!! Streaming sounds so incredible!!! I remember back in the 1980's when CDs became popular and the belief was that turntables would no longer be necessary. Today turntables and vinyl are more popular than ever. When streaming became the new norm the belief was that CD players had be...
Help - is Krell dead? So sorry to hear about Rondi’s tragic passing. She and Dan built Krell into the legendary company that it became. I did not know that Rhondi had gone back to working for them after she and Dan left Krell several years ago, the result of a dispute ...
No replaement PCBs for Krell Evo series What about other sources for the PCB's or are they proprietary to Krell?
If Steely Dan had a different vocalist @mgw I did not mean to be ironic. I misread the post. lol. I just went to YouTube to listen to a few songs by Monkey House and their music does indeed have a sound signature that is very similar to that of Steely Dan. So much so that I would say t...
If Steely Dan had a different vocalist Having grown up in the 1970's, where Steely Dan's Avant-garde approach to making music would go on to make them one of the most unique sounding groups in history, it's difficult to fathom anyone not knowing who they are. But, this is coming fr...
AI-Written Stereophile Articles I think that AI is gradually being used to replace humans. As for the OP’s statement about AI written audio reviews, that would not surprise me at all. I’ve even noticed that when you do Google searches now, the information written about the topic...
Watts! How many do we need? There's nothing like a well designed class A amplifier to bring out the best performance in your speakers. I once owned an original Bedini 25/25 that was a nice match with my 15 ohm Rogers LS3/5A's. It was also supposed be a great match for the...
DCS Sending Legal Notice To Reviewer (Golden Sound) Over an Old Review of Their Bartok DAC It's always unfortunate when these types of situations take place. They tend to detract from what is an otherwise wonderful hobby. This particular situation regarding a reviewer of the dCS Bartock dac , Cameron, is not unique. High End audio co...
Amp showing its age? @hickamore. God willing you'll live a lot longer! 😊
Amp showing its age? Years ago I read an article whose author stated that as a rule of thumb, capacitors on solid state power amplifiers should be replaced every decade or so. This is even more pertinent when the amplifiers receive a lot of use. 👍 |
